łódź, łódka and statek - difference in meaning and instrumental form?

What is the difference between

łódź = ?? also plural form?
łódka = boat (little rowing?)
statek = ship

instrumental = łódź(i)em?
instrumental = łódką
instrumental = statkiem

Here you are:

łódź (boat) instrumental=łodzią
plural łodzie instrumental plural=łodziami

łódka (small boat) instrumental= łódką
statek (ship) instrumental=statkiem

and:

okręt (warship) instrumental=okrętem.

Łodzią.

instrumental should be łódzią


łódż - a small vessel, usually one without a deck (although a submatine is łódż podwodna)
statek - a large vessel
okręt - large, seagoing vessel, or a warship

łódź: is it masculine, or feminine or neutre - if you look at the nominativ, it looks m, but if you look at the instrumental, it looks feminine? i'm confused?

and - how big a boat would łódź be? boat can be pretty much anything?

okręt - plural okręty? (btw - thanx for adding to my load ;) as if i don't have enough to work on :/ :P

Seriously, size is not what you think about here. It's more the construction of the vessel. You could have statek larger than łódź. So most of the time think this way:

deck - statek
no deck - łódź

You're not the first one to think he is Polish. See, there is a thing amongst Polish people on this Forum that, if someone from another country comes to live in Poland, that the partner must necessarily be Polish. ;) Another Polish stereotype ;P

I guess you're right about the stereotype. In your case it seems a more exotic idea to go to Poland than for, say, a European. couple. Kinda like people asking me what Africaans was when they saw the manual on my bookshelf. I never got around to learning it though.

Also, I left Poland 20 years ago, so the stereotypes in the back of my mind might be even stronger than those of Poles living in Poland right now. You probably know about today's Poland more than I do. In short, it appears that the country I left no longer exists :)

Aren't you curious to come and see? It's exciting - and scary - just like SA at the moment :)

I am. My daughter went to Poland a couple years ago and she loved the country and the people. She wants to go and live there for a couple years, perhaps longer. I guess I'll have to check it all out too.
