Hello just found this forum. I lived in Europe for 4 years and enjoyed my visits to Poland. I am hoping to learn more about the country, I am now studying Polish (well, trying!) and plan to visit Europe again in the spring, and spend some of that time in Poland with friends. My dream would be to travel to Krakow & study Polish language & culture for a few months.

Quoting: Wroclaw, Post #6
Dora,

Hello and welcome.

Please, give us your thoughts on Wroclaw.

Very happy to do so... I love Wroclaw. The Panorama was fantastic, and going to Wroclaw for the Panorama ALONE was worth the trip. Been to see that 3 times now, and will go again on my next visit. Everytime I see a new detail.

As someone who speaks 10 words of Polish, (but pretty good German which came in handy) I felt very at home there. I walked all over - its a pretty small downtown area, so its doable. Had some wonderful meals on the Rynek and ate at one Mexican Restaurant -- wish I had the name or a matchbook -- we had a REALLY good time that night, a bit too much...heh heh. So nice to stop in some of the small coffee shops & relax & talk.
The big Mall there was fun. (Dominska?? I can't remember the name) Lots of young people walking around and people smiling!! (I was living in Germany then & didn't see too much of that!) It was right before Christmas and the atmosphere was very festive, and I felt so happy to be there, I sat in the mall & people watched for about an hour. I specifically remember the gorgeous fountains in the mall were times & synchronized water displays, and designed by a Pole. Fantastic.

There was one small strip of very artsy shops, not too far from the Holiday Inn, which was fun to look in. And also some nice shops to brows through on the Rynek. Didn't get to one of the other museums I wanted to see - right across from the Panorama - hope to the next time if I have an extra day. Also, the wext time I'll be with my friend again, who is now single and I think we will check out some of the bars & clubs.

Another person I know described Wroclow as a smaller version of Krakow, but I don't really think... I thought Krakow felt different to me.

Dora,

Thanks for your reply.

Did you do the Panorama with those multi-language headphones ?

Even in the last year Wroclaw has changed a lot. Soon an even bigger Mall will be opening.

The fountain that you mention does hold your attention for a while. Some people seem to stare at it for ages.

I don't think Wroclaw is anything like Krakow. To be honest I think Krakow has the edge.

Whenever you want to know what is happening here you can start a new thread, or if you want you can mail me.

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself here.

We used the multi language headphones at the Panorama. Good thing... heh heh. Wow a new mall !! I am looking forward to seeing it. Not that I can really "shop" on this trip, b/c it will be only me & 1 large suitcase, ha ha ha, but I really enjoy looking around.

Krakow had a different feeling, yes, but Wroclaw felt more "at home" to me perhaps because of the size & I could walk all over. Krakow is so much larger. On my visit to Krakow we were also in Tarnow as well for several nights with other friends.
