Frank, please read the whole of my posting(s) and don’t just cut snippets out in your lame effort to support your claim of my arrogance :o)
I have not written anything that the majority of people who have a knowledge of football would not agree with.
Quoting: Frank
thought Polish people would know better...
not sure what you mean by this comment ?
How would you expect Polish people to feel at this moment in time with regards to their national football team – I would have thought that one would have to feel an air of confidence (not arrogance, as you wrongly claim) and belief that their team can improve even more and progress further, especially under the guidance of a good coach such as Leo Beenhakker.
Surely you don’t believe Poles should be apologetic for their success in qualifying for Euro 2008 and be pessimistic on their chances in the World Cup Qualifiers ?
Having some self-belief and confidence is not the same as arrogance …… having qualified for Euro 2008, Poles should also believe they can qualify for World Cup 2010 ?
Arrogance would have been claiming that we are better than most teams which have qualified for Euro 2008 and that Poland is now seen as one of the favourites to win the tournament. With the likes of France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Spain etc making such a claim would be foolhardy.
However , as Jimmy Greaves puts it …. ‘it’s a funny old game’, meaning that in this wonderful sport anything is possible …… lower seeded teams can perform above themselves on the day and cause an upset !
Nobody expected Denmark to win the Euro Championships, beating Germany in the Final; who would have put money on Greece winning the last Euro Championships ?
There will no doubt be a few surprise results in the qualification for World Cup 2010 as well as in the tournament itself in South Africa; it’s quite possible that N.Ireland could finish in the top two, hopefully with Poland, meaning that Czechs would not qualify :o)
I’ll be trying to get tickets and come over for N.Ireland v Poland match in Belfast;
Frank, I’ll happily buy you a Guiness if I make to Belfast …. and we can discuss World Football and our respective countries till the bars shut !
