Draw for Qualifying Groups for World Cup 2010 in South Africa

Tomorrow we will find out who will be in Polska's qualifying group for 2010 World Cup in South Africa !

As Polska is seeded in the second group of seeds, along with England and Scotland, this means that the three countries cannot be in the same group !

What's the chances of Polska getting Wales again !!

Italy , although they are World Champions, will have to qualify also :o), only South Africa are sure of being there as hosts.

There are 31 places up for grabs.

Just had a look at the FIFA rankings. I know they dont mean much but I am surprised to see Poland ranked 23rd, I thought they would be higher.

Thanks Greg .... unfortunately I'll be on my way to watch Fulham v Blackburn Rov - no doubt someone will tell me at the match what happened in the draw :o)

Only top team in each group will be guaranteed a place in South Africa .... then it'll be a home/away playoff between best 8 runners-up !

We haven't even played the Euro 2008 competition, and already attention is turned to World Cup qualification !

They were in the first pot not without a reason but they are not Brazil. Norther Ireland has lately made a huge progress but they and other teams are no doubt weaker.

I was assuming we would win the right to host the 2018 world cup so we wouldn't need to beat anybody to qualify

Hmmmm ..... interesting Group for Polska :o)

The Czechs will be tough, but we'll have to look out for the likes of N. Ireland, Slovakia and Slovenia which could be potential banana skins !
Hopefully Leo would have got the Polska team disciplined enough for us not to slip up !
Should definitely finish as one of the best runners-up if not group winners. Czechs are good now, but by the time qualification comes around they may be rebuilding .... let's hope !

San Marino should be a good day trip .... I'll book tickets for that game as soon as they are available :o)

England have a relatively straightforward group and will be fighting to achieve second place :o))

So we are a banana skin.......cos Poland have qualified top of their group for Euro 2008, all of a sudden you have adopted/taken over the English attitude of utter arrogance in the footabll world?

Frank, don’t get so upset and offended …… the truth hurts.

Yes ... you can be considered a 'banana skin'

The Czechs and Poland will be seen as favourites to occupy the top two places in their group. The Czechs will be seen as favourites to occupy the automatic qualification spot. Whether this comes true ….. we can only wait and see :o)

As a Poland supporter I would say I was ‘confident’ rather than ‘arrogant’.

Of course all Poland supporters will be on a high after finishing top of their qualification group with the likes of Portugal finishing below them – on recent performances and results why shouldn’t Poles believe they can qualify for the World Cups ahead of N.Ireland, Slovakia and Slovenia ?

The last two competitive meetings between Poland and N.Ireland ended up with Poland winning 3-0 away in Belfast, (4th Sept 2004) and winning 1-0 at home, (30th March 2005).

Leo Beenhakker has instilled a belief in the players as well as resilience which makes the Polish team harder to beat. The real test will be in how the Polish team performs at Euro 2008.

How have I done this ?
By stating Poland should finish in the top two of their qualifying group for the World Cup is something that anyone with even the smallest knowledge of World Football would say; I have not said Poland are the best team in the world, and I have not made any claims to substantiate your ridiculous comment regarding arrogance.

How can you possibly express such a faint surprise at the vanity of football fans? Apart from sopranos, they are the vainest humans on earth. The Poles are actually quite modest if compared with certain Northern Irishers who already state that they would own the group as smoothily as they owned Spain or Sweden in certain lucky games. Not to mention a great number of Scots whom, completely intoxicated with a bizarre Fifa up-levelling, already start treating many countries twice the size of Scotland as 'small nations' (Norway as a example). In the UK now, there are only Welshmen whose humility actually earns them respect!

Frank, please read the whole of my posting(s) and don’t just cut snippets out in your lame effort to support your claim of my arrogance :o)

I have not written anything that the majority of people who have a knowledge of football would not agree with.

not sure what you mean by this comment ?

How would you expect Polish people to feel at this moment in time with regards to their national football team – I would have thought that one would have to feel an air of confidence (not arrogance, as you wrongly claim) and belief that their team can improve even more and progress further, especially under the guidance of a good coach such as Leo Beenhakker.

Surely you don’t believe Poles should be apologetic for their success in qualifying for Euro 2008 and be pessimistic on their chances in the World Cup Qualifiers ?

Having some self-belief and confidence is not the same as arrogance …… having qualified for Euro 2008, Poles should also believe they can qualify for World Cup 2010 ?

Arrogance would have been claiming that we are better than most teams which have qualified for Euro 2008 and that Poland is now seen as one of the favourites to win the tournament. With the likes of France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Spain etc making such a claim would be foolhardy.

However , as Jimmy Greaves puts it …. ‘it’s a funny old game’, meaning that in this wonderful sport anything is possible …… lower seeded teams can perform above themselves on the day and cause an upset !

Nobody expected Denmark to win the Euro Championships, beating Germany in the Final; who would have put money on Greece winning the last Euro Championships ?

There will no doubt be a few surprise results in the qualification for World Cup 2010 as well as in the tournament itself in South Africa; it’s quite possible that N.Ireland could finish in the top two, hopefully with Poland, meaning that Czechs would not qualify :o)

I’ll be trying to get tickets and come over for N.Ireland v Poland match in Belfast;

Frank, I’ll happily buy you a Guiness if I make to Belfast …. and we can discuss World Football and our respective countries till the bars shut !

haha, this is what happened in SA this time. I'm afraid that, if some miracle doesn't happen, and soon, we might be kicked out after our first game! :)

I was so disgusted with Polish TV for only screening the European draw! It's like the rest of the world doesn't even exist!

arrogance is what michael owen said about croatians 2 days ago in some newspaper..(that none of the croats would get in to the first english team:read;they r not good enough)
