Over sleep??? Boris Yeltsin the former leader of Russia was too drunk to get off the plane in Ireland, ConstantineK, you were told he overslept? you probably think Putin was a boy scout and not a member of the KGB?
By the way Yeltsin is a legend in Ireland for that stunt!!

Ok, the truth is that God invented alcohol to stop the Irish from taking over the world.

Really the man made Irish history. It was hilarious, the red carpet was out, the Taoiseach, president and the band playing. The camera poised on the door of the plane and.... well nothing, he drank copious amounts of Vodka!

You said the band had played? Hmm, you know he was not only sleepyhead but also a virtuoso in band-mastering... So, you are lucky that he had drun... faugh, overslept it.

Finally, something Poland has been advocating for a long time.... The French have made a complete 180 since Sarkoszy.... However don't see the need for Spain... we don't need cowards..

In the states we used to joke about French being surrender junkies, people even sold all white "French" flags in novelty stores. Gun ads would say "French rifle, unfired, only dropped once". While these were mostly gags, there was a small basis in truth.
Good to see France is turning around. Lots of respect, as changing a whole national mentality does not come easily.

Spain on High Alert for upcoming elections

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7257049.stm

could it be that maybe its because of the cowardness of Spain in withdrawaling troops from Iraq after Madrid train bombings has shown the terrorists that Spainish elections can be influenced by such cowardly acts..

who would win?

who knows, maybe soon we would have answer. Sooner then later, i would say...

Also Friday, Russia -- which has not recognized Kosovo's sovereignty -- said it has not ruled out using force to resolve the dispute over the territory if NATO forces breach the terms of their U.N. mandate.

"If the EU works out a single position or if NATO steps beyond its mandate in Kosovo, these organizations will be in conflict with the U.N., and then I think we will also begin operating under the assumption that in order to be respected, one needs to use force," Moscow's ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said, in comments carried by Russia's Interfax news agency.

A spokesman for Russia's Foreign Ministry warned that Kosovo's declaration would have a "negative impact."

"What happened in Belgrade yesterday is regrettable. But we would want to draw your attention to the fact that the forces that supported the unilateral recognition of Kosovo's independence should have realized the effects of the move," spokesman Mikhail Kamynin told Interfax.

Russian people have other mentality. They think Władimir Putin`s government policy is great, but They have to habit to this politics. And Putin makes all to convince Russians, is strong president, and doesn`t like EU. Russians like this, I think. And now, Władimir Putin can order new president, Russians trust him, it`s good choice. But, of course, Poland and Russia live in crisis in commmunicate, but the politics from both there countries to bear a blame. It`s clear. I don`t get rid of responsibility from Polish politicans.
I`m Sorry, my English language is weak, but i speak very well German language ;)

Very smart move by the V4, they should also create a common army... the more these countries cooperate the more they each benefit..

I think this can only be good news for Poland. It was difficult to gain more influence for Poland in EU (even though Poland did a hell of a job) with both these countries working together. Now it will be much easier.

I wouldn't believe these guys matthias...that's these guys who preach the soon-to-be-coming armageddon (led by Germans fo course) which only the people of the real faith will survive and everybody else will go to thell...religious nutters.
They can and will have to wait till they get blue in the face! :)

PS: Germany survived the Kacinskies, we will survive Sarkozy (poor frenchies though)

I agree with that statement. Its good your here. You can answer this best, has there been a cool down in relations between Germany and France?

If there is, To be honest on with Germany on this one. France seems like a country only driven by it's own national intrests. I mean all countries are, but France takes it to the extreme.

The Spiegel had a funny column last week where one writer took the pains to count how often did Sarkozy put his foot in his mout already during his short reign...it was more than most politicians had the misfortune in all their careers.
The sympathy from his own people is falling rapidly...it's sad actually. Many people had quite high hopes but he is in danger to become a laughing stock.

Cool down of relationships?

Take for example the from Sarkozy favored new Mediterranean Union.
First Sarkozy wanted to leave the other EU-members out
Second Merkel and others disagreed with him and talk it over with him. He listens and agrees to make it a whole EU-issue.
Third barely back in Paris the rennounces the agreement and says he still will announce the Med-union without the EU

Wouldn't you cool down too?

But how I said...it's him who makes himself look stupid. Who wants to stay beside an idiot?

I dont blame Merkal(I really like her by the way) the least bit. Merkal is rational(driven by logic and reason) and Sarkozy is irrational(driven by emotions). Germany will win this battle and hopefully with the influence France will lose, Poland will gain.

P.S France has showed is selfishness on many occasions and a lot more now that Sarkozy is in office.

Bratwurst, I doubt it but I do hope that would happen. Merkal and Tusk have warm cordial relations and thats why Im a little suprised that more hasn't been done to bring these countries closer together.

IMO it seems he has the same exact views as Putin except he deals with them in a much softer approach.

Yeah I guess thats true---plus both countries have been kind of preoccupied lately with much urgant matters.

On a side note, Im glad the Germans seem to like Obama, very good choice...

From an article written in Speigal:

A German officer recently asked French Army Chief of Staff Jean-Louis Georgelin whether Paris, in return for agreeing to return to the NATO fold, would demand that a second, French deputy be installed. "What do you mean, 'deputy?'" the Frenchman replied. "I want to be SACEUR!"

Lmao......... The French are hilarious, selfish, and unrealistic..... NATO hasn't needed them for 40 years, we sure as hell don't need them now.

Bratwurst thanks for those links.... Sarkozy's entire Presidency is a PR campaign...

Europe needs a common energy policy, Im suprised anybody would be against this. It's clear the EU would have much more power in negotiations with Russia.

Tusk said it best, "We must treat Russia with no fear, no fascination and see it as a separate political entity which is not pushing for integration with the EU," "An entity with its own aspirations and interests that are sometimes in line and sometimes contradictory to the ones of the European community."

The Germans act smart when they don't babbling constantly about lack of democracy in Russia. Thus they have a possibility to do business in Russia. But they are wrong on energy security if some new and cheap(!!) technologies wont be discovered they might find themselves fully dependent from Kremlin soon.

While EU bureaucrats have more important problems to spend money, global warming, farmer's subsidies or never-ending TV adverts!

Good points Lesser......... Good news is Poland knows better. Bad news is Poland can't fight this on it's own.

When is Europe going to learn not to let Russia run the show.... Are we to abandon two countries just because it would make Russia angry. This just shows the weakness in German and French policy.

This article above doesn't make sense.... It says Poland is ranked as the 5 largest economy in EU. That can't be true..... You have Germany, UK, France, Italy, Spain and then it should be Poland...

Anybody know where I can find a copy of the European Commission 14 largest Economies in EU report??????
