best place to buy winter clothing in Warsaw

My family and I are moving to Warsaw in September from a relatively warm area of the United States. We don't have much in the way of winter clothing so I figured we would just buy it when we get there so we don't have to worry about transporting it. What is a good place to go to get affordable winter clothing that will last? I don't care about brands.

Sounds like clothing prices are still stupidly high in Poland then,Id go for layers in the states as said above ,cheaper no doubt and light weight enough not to be a hassle carrying to Poland.

Find a good outdoor or camping shop in the states.... You could always get them to ship it to Poland for you...

Ok Ryanb, here is the info you will need clothing for the winter that can keep you warm in temps up to - 20/25 at worst. Most important clothing is good boots, winter Jackets ( Gortex lightweight and warm) they are quite expensive here, thermals, good winter socks, gloves and hats, facial creams for extreme temps and a rucksack most have them in the winter. Buy your vitamins supplements and any flu medicine you have no allergic reaction too. You will all get sick in your first winter, so be prepared.

A clothes shop. There are plenty of malls in Warsaw. You can get anything you need.

Prices are rather higher in Europe than in the US (as is quality and style), so you may save money buying there. You'd have to decide whether the space winter clothing would take in luggage or the cost of excess baggage or shipping would make the small saving worth the effort. There are good value shops here. Also markets which can be very cheap.

You should remember that although the outside can be cold (-10 in Warsaw very often, warmer in a mild winter, colder in a bad one), buildings are heated to the point of stuffiness inside. I usually favour a good heavy coat and light-ish clothing underneath. (But perhaps not as light as you're used to) You might want long johns or a thermal vest (a vest in the English sense of the word, not the AmEng meaning) for those few days when the temperature falls below -10 or so. A hat that covers the ears is a good idea for the worst days. Most people here wear them.

Please take seriously what I said about thermal underwear - it allows you to dress warmly but not look like the Michelin Man. @Warszawski mentioned that it can go down to -25c on a few days. This is fortunately very rare but can happen and is the tmperature is unpredictable. Thermals will give you an extra layer for those days. Aa hat that covers the ears is good for when it goes below about -5c (lasts at least a month) and gloves. People will stare at you if you don't have them. You should buy those here. Good dry boots are a must, but are heavy, so buy them here. Things like sweaters are cheap, and Marks & Spencer (their range is usually shown on their website) is a good place to shop. The big supermarkets like Carrefour are extremely cheap, and if you are a student you should get a discount at some chain stores.

warszawski: You will all get sick in your first winter, so be prepared. Not necessarily. I'm from San Diego and I didn't get sick in the four winters I've been here. But warm clothes are a must.

The stores where I live don't carry any real heavy winter clothing anyway; it doesn't get cold enough here even in the wintertime, and even if they did they won't have it during the summer when I would need to buy it; I'd have to mail order, pay shipping on that to here and then ship it to Warsaw. Is the price differential sufficient to justify that?

Also, are trenchcoats common in Warsaw? I'd rather get a coat that would look good over a suit as well for church as well as more casual clothes, but not if it carries a negative connotation- a friend of mine said that at least in Bulgaria they were associated with the mafia.
