Why are cars so expensive in Poland ?

i have looked on the internet for cars in pl my god so expensive why is that is it better to take right hand drive over and then convert it to left does anyone know what it would cst to do this

In Norway and Denmark, so-called "registration tax" may easily be equal to the value of the new car itself and is never depreciated... This often doubles the price of already expensive cars. In Poland, the fuel is almost the cheapest in the EU. Everything has to be put in the right perspective, everything balances.

Some story to cheer up Todiak. An article from the Norwegian press:

OBAMA'S TAX SHOCK
At the time of publishing this article, Norway was awaiting the state visit of President Barack Obama. The American President (the article reads) usually takes his limo to any country visited, and to act right -- he orders registering the limo in given country.

The Norwegian tax authority made tax calculation to register Obama's limousine:

1. Car weight tax (approx. 8 tonnes): 1,200,000 NOK
2. Engine power tax (approx. 450 HP): 600,000 NOK
3. Ecology tax (over 1 kilogram of CO2 per 1 km): 2,200,000 NOK
4. Scrapping tax: 1,300 NOK only
The total tax would be approximately NOK 4,000,000, equvalent to PLN 2,000,000 or USD 717,000 at that time

Just look to the ecological tax itself. One needs to remember all those ecological nonsense had been supported by the U.S. Pres. own party and advisors. Were Obama really charged with that tax, the U.S. tax-payer would certainly notice the cost of those silly ideas ;-)

I need to buy a Mercedes sprinter van , to move all the contents of my Polish farm to my new home in Russia.....they are about half the price in the UK as they are in Poland , the only problem being the steering wheel on the wrong side , not a problem for me , but hopefully it will still sell ok in Moscow....Cars in Moscow are even more expensive than Polish ones...

I don,t think so. And it,s not only cars or petrol that,s more expensive, most commodities in Poland are over priced. Do you want to talk about electricity, gas, telephones, clothing etc, etc ?

There is something wrong somewhere , when wages are so low , and yet cars , among other things are so dam expensive in Poland....

Its good news for Poles that want to make a bit of dosh though...you can fly to the UK , buy a car , drive it to Polska , and sell it for parts or for conversion to left hand drive.... A Polish friend of mine makes a living this way....

Yes... not so long ago a Polish mans dream was to be able to have a Maluch...now they all seem to be driving about in big expensive suv,s .. So somethings changed...

Yes.

It's quite common in cities like Berlin to see people employed under a so-called "minijob" - paying 400 euro a month. In Poznan, you'd have to be a blithering idiot if you couldn't get 1,600zl netto a month after graduating.

Electricity reflects the real cost. Likewise with gas. Telephony is dirt cheap (the phones are unsubsidised, true - but that's no bad thing) compared to the cost of the infrastructure (which is about 15% less than in Western Europe). Clothing isn't cheap, but who the hell wants to buy cheap clothes anyway, made in some sweat shop?

I'm really not sure why people think Poland should be much cheaper than Western Europe when the economics don't add up at all.

No , i don,t make a living out of shipping cars to Poland.... I have brought a few over for Polish friends but i did not make any money out of them , just charged them for the fuel and ferry costs...

I don,t do anything on the quiet , especially if i go to work on my Harley...

At the moment i make enough money to eat and pay my bills from helping a friend build custom Harley,s...

I won,t have a proper job until i go to Moscow...

A conversion requires left hand drive dashboard, seats, mirrors etc. so the price will fluctuate. Tip ? Get your components from France. wildrover: I don,t do anything on the quiet Hey !! THE HITMAN: I will pay you that sort of money for cleaning bogs in England per week without graduating. Nice of you to compare Polish graduates to toilet cleaners. Perhaps economics eludes you, but don't forget - the UK had ...somewhat of a head start. And heck, you have to live in the UK for that money - a cold, overcrowded (in Englandshire, anyway) place with some shocking problems.

PolskiMoc: I thought Germans flocked to Polish dealerships in border towns because Polish cars were actually cheaper? The zloty/euro went on a wild ride in 2008 going from 3.25 to 5 in the span of a couple of months. That made car prices (and everything else for that matter) very attractive.
