Charity Shops in Poland - where are they?

I've got some old clothes that I would like to donate to some charity shop(s) in Warsaw. The trouble is, where are they? I've looked high and low for such places and found none.

All I can find is shops that accept your clothes, and then sell them off, pocketing the whole profit. Yes, these are second hand shops, not charity shops, cos no money is actually going to any charity other than the shopkeepers pocket.

I would like to find the Polish version of Oxfam or something like it. Or even where I know that the clothes are going to less privileged people than myself.

Do Poles believe in charity or giving things away for free? (Don't answer that. I already know the answer).

The same problem with me. I would like to give away some clothes I don't wear anymore and there is no such place. People thought that "PCK" clothing bins are something like charity but WRONG. PCK (Polish Red Cross) is just selling them the right to use stickers with PCK name to some private company which sells clothes to Ukrainian second hands or for recycling. If you wanna be sure that your clothes will be donated to poor people you have no other way than find some institution which helps poor people in direct way (homeless dosshouses, homes of lonely mothers, maybe MOPS etc.) and ask them if they need clothes.

Places where women with children who has no place to live can move in. In many cases those women are victims of their husband's violence running away from it and they are in such intitions for the time being until they set up their lives from the scratch.

There's a Sue Ryder shop in Warsaw, maybe they can tell you. Or try Caritas (sp).

Perfect. Cheers, Trevek. I'll try the Sue Ryder shop. I didn't realise the Sue Ryder foundation stretched this far outside of England. I found some more information on "Warsaw's Only Charity Shop" if anyone else is interested: 00-585 Warszawa, ul. Bagatela 15 tel. (022) 646 58 55 Open on work days from 10:00 to 18:00 website

It does seem a bit ironic that she's better known in UK when she was made "Baroness Ryder of Warsaw" for her aid relief in post-war Poland.

Really? I'll tell my friend about that. His dad was a pilot in the RAF and his mum worked in the same unit as Sue Ryder (apparently she often dropped in for tea when he was growing up).

http://www.muzeum-motoryzacji.com.pl/podstrony/galeria.html It is standing outside just before the entrance to the museum. Inside there is an expo with all newpaper clippings and other memmentos from the foundation's activities in Poland.
