Was just wondering if they're any foreigners out there who have obtained a polish licence.
I have a British Learners licence and just wanted to know if i can go for driving lessons here in Polska and then later apply for a driver's licence. My polish is not that good so i don't think it would be easy for me to start from the beginning like reading the learners driving code.

Your experiences and knowledge appreciated.

Dziękujemy

You'll need to have the 5 year EU residence permit before sitting the test in order to fufil the 185 days legal residency rule.

Other than that, you're free to go - there's no provisional licence here, so you just go to a school, sign up for the 30 hours of theory classes in English, do the first aid course and get a medical check, then do the 30 hours of practical training, then the test is yours to sit. The theory test is available in English in some localities, and you'll need a sworn translator for the driving part of the test.

Just spotted that you're in Poznan - http://www.zdajprawko.com/ is highly recommended and provides you with everything you need.

You have a provisional UK drivers licence, you can only drive in the UK (restrictions apply) this licence is worthless in Poland. You will have to start from the beginning, no other option.

Hi, I am coming to Poland soon to permantly live, and I see that you say that you need an EU residents permit? I thought that under the agreement between UK and Ireland to allow free movement and access to Polish that the same rules apply to us going to Poland?
What is the situation with a person with a full EU driving licience? can it be converted to a Polish licience? or do you HAVE! to sit a Polish test? I am driving since '81, sorry for all the questions but I want to make sure I do not run into problems, and I have experience already with Polish bureaucracy, and it was not pleasant, in fact it was a standup row. they basicaly told me I was not entitled to live and work in the country, and refused at first to even issue me with a NIP. finally recieved it after 3 months.
Thanks
:)

If you have an full EU licence just keep it as it is. You can legally drive and shouldn't be able to get points too.

You need it under EU law - though in day to day life, not having one isn't much of a big deal. It's more of use if you intend to stay here for a while - you need the residence permit in order to get a bank loan for instance.

Only if you don't already have a PESEL - if you do, then they can add points because it's the person that gets issued with points rather than the licence. It's this reason that forces you to go to the police station to find out about your driving record - as it's attached to the person. It's not a bad idea really - stops people driving with dodgy licences obtained abroad.
