Hi,

I will be moving to Poznan in 2 weeks and I would truly need some help regarding the following:

1. Housing costs - I will be looking for a flat in the center of the city that is fully furnished. Bed room, kitchen, living room, kitchen and parking if possible..
2. Monthy service fees - High speed internet, cable tv, cell service, power, water, trash, and so on.
3. Food/living - Is it expensive eating out for mid range dinners? How is shopping?
4. Average Salary - What is the med range salary for an IT Manager? I know what I will make just want to see what the average...
5. English speaking - I do not know much Polish (a few words) I speak more Russian and spanish and as English is my native just would wonder how hard it will be to fit in?

I would like to thank you in advance for your help and input concerning the above and I truly look forward to my move to Poznan.. :)

1) A decent flat in the current climate will cost around 2000 pln and about 300 pln per month for bills. Avoid Wilda, Jezyce and Lazarz as they are pretty rough. If your budget can stretch to it look at "City Park" on Wyspianskiego street, Its awesome and the flats are becoming reasonably priced now. 2700 pln gets you a 1 bedder with access to the on site swimming pool, gym and sauna. Also its a 3 min tram ride from the centre.

2) Budget 300 pln per month for utilities and internet although some flats include this,

3) A good meal out will be about 70 pln per head, There are cheaper places but the price reflects the quality. We spend about 150 pln per week on shopping between 2 of us but we do eat a lot of meat, beef etc.

4) Average salary here is ****. I'm not sure what an IT manager will get as i've never worked for a Polish company. I'm guessing you want to aim for 10,000 pln per month.

5) You'll be fine, I've intentionally refused to speak Polish and i've found that anyone worth speaking to can speak English.

Finally when you get here be on your guard for people trying to rip you off. Polish people are generally very un trustworthy and you can find yourself paying double for things as they assume that as you speak english you must be wealthy. This is very common so be on your guard and when getting in a taxi always agree a price first.

Hope this helps.

Judging by those prices, you need to be wealthy even if you only speak Polish!

Yes you could get cheaper places but if you're a foriegner living in Poland you might as well get the best you can afford. You can get a house somewhere in the city for that but the chances are it'll be a commute from the centre or in a **** area. Personally city park is the place I would choose if i was staying here. we pay 1800 a month for a place in the suburbs that doesn't even have a pool.

I assume that you'll be staying in a hotel when you first move here - if so, feel free to give me a shout when you come, I'll happily help you find somewhere decent to live. There's some choice - but if you tell me where your work will be based, I can give you a reasonable idea of costs and prices. The city centre is quite spread out, so it does depend on the exact location.

Get something in the area called "Polanka" - that's probably the best area for someone like you :)

I have a flat for rent at the moment in the centre. 58sq mtrs, brand new with parking space, no one has lived in it yet. I would like to think it is done to a high standard. It has just been placed on the market for 2000pln monthly plus 490 admin czyncz. It is fully furnished and equiped.

pm me if interested and I can send you more details.

the development is kazimerza wielkiego, about 5-10 mins walk to old town and stary browar.
