Hi all!

I have been to these guys who process this Karta Pobytu and I wasn't given a clear answer. My wife told me that its going to take around 2 months( words of officer who explained her).

However, I am not sure if he meant two months or within two months for this application to be processed. Because in UK, when I did apply for my Residence Permit last August, they said it may take up to 6 months but surprisingly I got a positive answer within 4 weeks.

I followed steps from some people on here and have done nearly all of what I was asked for (translated my marriage & birth certificate lately). And I have been registered on my in-laws address! I would like to know if there is anything else that I need to do? And the main question remains- How long does this application take to be processed?

Regards.

Karl.

It takes a while. Your situation is a little different than mine, but I'll you about my experiences during my four applications, once for my initial card and then three more times to renew it. In every case, the process was similar, although the last time I applied they asked me for a lot more documents than they had before.

I needed to have more than 45 days left on my visa when I came to Poland, and I've always started the renewal process more than 45 days before my card expired. Sometime before my card expired, usually a week or even a few days before the expiration date I received a decision then had to wait for 3-4 months before I actually got my new card. This time I started the process in September, got the decision in October and am still waiting for the new card which I should get either this month or next. Polish bureaucracy does not move swiftly.

It takes minimum 45 days to get decision thats there standard procedure. I have got my 5 the residence card and it always took 45 days not more. Since you have applied for residence card you would get a confirmation letter from the office that they have received your application and your decision will be made on particular date. They try to make decision on the date mentioned on the letter but at times it can take longer. You guys will have interview and decision will be made after that, I have been lucky always to get friendly inspektor for my case and I have been always informed on the same day that how long I will get card for and it is positive. After decision it will take 3-5 weeks to get your residence card.
cheers

And how were they for? I mean I know that they usually give you for one to five years as being s spouse for a Polish citizen. And in this lap of time you could claim your citizenship and save yourself from all this loads of stupid paperwork mate!

Unfortunately they dont give for 5 years like in another EU countries being spouse of EU national. They can give u for 1 or 2 years, One year they usually give to everyone if you apply for the first time and second time this can be for 2 years. Karta Pobytu is a term for residence card. Karta pobytu is given to everyone who is foreigner and living in Poland as a student, spouse, business or work.

In my case I always get for 1 year because i hardly stay in Poland I travel Poland - India 3-4 times in a year so thats why maybe they always give me 1 year but someone who is here working living they give 2 years after first card. If you live in Poland continuously for 3 years you can later be eligible for karta stalego pobytu (Permanent residence card) and eventually for passport.

I hope this helps.

I have a stamp in my passport saying that I can stay in Poland legally until I get the actual card. They also told me that the next time I apply it can be for 5 years or permanent residency since by then I will have been in Poland for six years.

My first two cards were for one year. The second two were for two years. See what I wrote above for the next one.

The guy who handles my renewals is a certified translator whose English is excellent. However, once the paperwork leaves his office after the final decision for approval, it goes into the system. God only knows what takes so long, but it my case it always takes months after the decision to receive the actual card. I'm not saying it's ;ike this anywhere else, only that it's been true for me in Gdansk.

It is not necessary that everyone will have first two card for one year. My friend for the first time got for 2 years and my second friend go second card for 2 years. It is upto the officer. There is no specific rules for the same.

It takes as long as it takes. One time the police decided they needed to come to my home three times before they would give me the OK (once they didn't believe I was me, the next time they didn't believe I lived in the flat which I own and only on the third visit did they believe I was me and did live there). All that added about a month to the process.

But don't worry about it: as long as you got your application in before the deadline for the submission of applications (I think it is now 30 days before the expiry of your existing visa), they are required to give you a temporary visa which is good for however long they take to finish processing your application.

Hi all. I sent my application to the corresponding department for my karta pobytu. I received a letter last week saying that they will take another 24 days to make a decision and on Monday I received a second letter saying that a personel from the immigration department will come to visit me next week!

Reading through all these replies on this thread, I didn't see anyone talking about this bit (visit from the immigration) which is making me more frustrated at the moment to be honest. Why are they taking 24 days more? My schengen visa expires just one day for the 24 days and I wonder what will happen if they take longer than that.
