Please recommend - shopping in Warsaw

Moved to Warsaw recently and am wondering if anyone can recommend any funky shops/boutiques worth checking out? Outside the major galleries such as "Zloty Tarasy" or "Mokotow", which I've already been to. By the way, I was in Poznan the other week and recommend the old brewery (Stary Browar). Maija

Try Arkadia, the biggest Polish gallery, but to be honest nothing in Warsaw can be compared to "Stary Browar". Warsaw is one of the worst European cities when it comes to shopping, the prices are pretty high (but still lower than in major Polish cities), and you're lucky if you find anything special here.

Maybe try sportswear, like Dechatlons? They offer a lot of different clothes with an amazing (at least in Poland) guarantee including 30 days return policy. The prices also could be really nice, you could grab decent trekking shoes for 50-200 zl, Adidas/Nike running/casual shoes for 100-300 zl etc.

Thanks Bart.... I've been to Arkadia. All the galleries seem to have the same shops. I'm going to try street shopping and get outside. I know there is Louboutin (Moliera 2), but that's a bit too expensive. Might stroll around Żurawia as there is a Wolford shop and I think Burberry is near... exploring :) If anyone stumbles upon or has stumbled upon anything cool and worth checking please post.

ul. Mokotowska- starts at Place Trych Krzyzy

There is also Chmelna and Nowy Swiat.
In Warsaw all the malls have all the same stores. If you go to these streets you will find some interesting things.

there is also a new high end mall across from Smyk on Jerozolimskie. It has all brand names if you are in to that- like gucci and prada. I will never go there but I imagine the prices are outrageous.

Has something been demolished to make way for it? I've not been in Warsaw for a couple of years, so I'm curious ;)

So I have a question: does anyone know how much a box of Ptassie Mleczko costs in Carrefour these days? The most up-to-date prices I could find are here:

Are those prices really up-to-date? If so, it probably saves around £1.00 a box on UK prices, so it's worth my while taking a larger suitcase :)

The price of a box of Ptasie Mleczko is the way I decide on suitcase sizes for journeys to PL (silly I know, but I can easily eat ten boxes of chocolates, but I can't eat ten packs of kiełbasy lol!).

the cheapest place I have found for groceries is Auchan in Piaseczno, you risk your life when you go in there though. The people are rude, it is always jam packed, the parking is a zoo and everybody eats the foods - like fruits and chips and stuff. Maybe just me but I get grossed out when I see people eating without washing the fruits and handling the other foods that maybe I was thinking of buying.

Ugh! Mind you, many supermarkets round here feel like you're in Lagos, so I'm sure i could cope with it. Piaseczno's a bit far out for me though :)

What??? this is the most ridiculous thing I have heard. The wrong side of the river??? there are loads of nice places on the praga side- saska kepa is one.
as for the slums....that are around the mall is hardly a slum. that is the lower working class and elderly of Poland. not slums.

I've been there, and it's nothing compared to the most run-down parts of England, definitely not a "slum".

Yes the new Mall on Ulica Bracka, there are also nice shops in that areas and streets around Pl. Trzech Krzyży

I thought I posted but anyway...

When I visit upper (more expensive) boutiques in Poland I feel I'm being measured up by the staff... cold stare/evil eye ... especially if I 'm the only one in the shop, not always but enough. I hate that kind of feeling... is it me or does anyone else have the same experience ?

Secondly, I'm used to being able to return items I purchased but it seems that in Poland all sales are final... when I ask about returns (without cause) they look at me like I'm from mars ? Not that I am a "chronic reterner" but on occasion I do have buyer's remorse.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations, I walked around Chmelna - lots of cool shop and I found these boots in a little boutique :) hurray !!!

I have never had a problem returning items in Poland, although not all shops will give a 100% refund,many will give you a credit against a future purchase, if fact I bought my kids sports some shoes last summer while I was in GalMoK they did not like them I took them back to Lacoste and got a credit note and used the credit note a year later for a purchase

You can also try KLIF shopping mall, they have special shopping evenings every couple of months between 21.00 to 24.00 hrs, it is only open by invitation and many of the outlets use these evenings to clear stock at big discounts.

I'm a shoe obsessed and returns with shoes are easy cause you can tell if someone wore them and when returned they must be (look) unworn, so if you wear them for a night don't expect a return. However if I purchase expensive shoes (say $300) I may get home and realize I'm not as crazy about them as I thought... it would be fine if I had gobs and gobs of money or owned a shoe factory but that is not the case.
