Polish equivalent of Maplins or Radio Shack in Łódź

Hi all. Currently in Poland (near Łódź) and wondering where the best place to get hold of XLR leads, 1/4" to 1/8" adaptors and other audio/recording related little bits and pieces. I know there's RTV-AGD in Manufaktura (and maybe Elektroworld as well) but is there something a bit more like Maplins (UK) or Radio Shack (US) which is more specialised in this kind of area? Thanks in advance

Why not just buy it on Allegro and save yourself a trip? I recently went all over looking for a large diaphragm condenser mic but there was nothing available in shops selling electronics. Allegro is good for specialist stuff.

Specialised music shops catering for sound systems (not musical instruments), rather than the big chains I think. Google 'sklep muzyczny Łodz' and you might get lucky. The only similar chains here are MediaExpert and MediaMarkt but they really only cater for TVs, vacuum cleaners, etc, not what you're after at all.

Good idea - thanks. I've not signed up at Allegro yet, but will have a look there. Ideally would be some kind of shop with a website, where I can look at the pictures to find out the Polish name for what I'm looking for. What I love about Maplins is you can shop online or in the store. (Their website will usually give you an idea of stock levels in the shops as well).

What I find difficult in Polish shops is that, apart from some of the more modern ones, stuff is often not on display and you have to ask for it - which gets hard unless you know what it's called. ;)

If you know what you are after, it would probably make more sense to order from one of the big stockists on the web, either Digital Village or Thomann.
That's if the same sort of place doesn't exist in Poland which it sounds like it doesn't, although if it does that would be cool as I will want to buy some bits and pieces next month.

DV charge you 60Pln for delivery, Thomann charge 80Pln. With Thomann the delivery is free if you spend over 800Pln, but you can also knock DV down if you are spending a bit.
You'd be best off buying from somewhere like that rather than Maplins or the equivalent as they won't be able to supply items of a good enough grade if you're recording.

Disclaimer: I haven't even arrived in Poland yet (!) but had to do the same thing from Denmark as prices were pretty extortionate there, but as ever, YMMV.

Oddly enough I have ordered some bits from Thomann. I noted that delivery charges from Germany to Poland are exactly double their rates to UK. That kind of sucks. I wonder what the reason is? (maybe smaller traffic volume?) It was mostly little bits I wanted, leads, connectors etc. I would have gone mail order but I wanted them quickly. I got most of what I needed, but it was hard to track down silly things like 1/4" to 1/8" headphone jack adaptor without buying headphones (eventually tracked one down in the French supermarket REAL of all places).

Either they have a special volume discount on UK items or extra insurance needed for delivery to PL? Cholera wie.

There's a massive Saturn electronics store in Blue City that stocks loads of cables, connectors and stuff like that, there's one in the funky glass covered mall next to the central station too.
