Lukasz, where was the prettiest place you went to in the states? Did you go to the national parks? There are some absolutely beautiful places.

My husband's job brought us here 3 months ago and we'll be here 3 yrs (at least). My family is originally from Rzeszow and Debica (I think small towns). Our kids are all in college or working and living their own lives. Since there are no weddings/grandchildren in the works, we thought this would be the perfect time to be over here. We love to travel and want to see as much of Europe as possible while we are here (hopefully on the Harley). We will also look up whatever family is still here. And of course, we are hoping to give our kids, friends, and family the opportunity to come over here as well without having to worry about the expense of hotels, and always eating out, etc. There is so much to see and learn here!

I will be moving to Poland next June. I am Polish/Canadian and I have been to Poland many times. I actually just got back. I have many friends there and lots of family, a lot more than I do in Toronto. I absolutely love the country and everything having to do with it. Eventhough I was born in Canada I feel more at home in Poland. It also helps that I am fluent in Polish as well. I find life is much simpler in Europe. Warsaw is developing very rapidly and it isn't what it used to be even 5 years ago.

derek:

Just out of interest.Of all the people on this site that relocated to poland.
What were the reasons

1. Job - VERY good wage, exact match to my areas of interests/skills/PhD, etc.

2. Polish people - I know many. My good friends are mostly Polish.

3. Country - I've been there many times, and always loved it.

4. Slavic culture - very colourful in Poland, but it isn't so chaotic as in Russia or Ukraine.

5. Food - a big jump from cheap junks in Manchester. I want to have some Pierogi, Barszcz, Bigos or whatever meaty thing full of pork. (But I still insist Japanese food is better. Sorry!)

6. Zywiec, Okocim and Tyskie

.....so I'll be moving to Krakow very soon.

I married a 1/2 polish (haven't figured out which half) and we just found Polish family this year; we have been there three times in five months (and they have visited us twice). I love it... the places, the weather, the food... but most of all... THE PEOPLE! We have met an incredible bunch who have welcomed us into their hearts and homes, and treated us like royalty. I'm a calm, cool (some say 'cold'), 'measured' sort of person, but I've become besotted; I'm learning to speak the language, and I fear I'm becoming a bit of a bore when it comes to conversational topics!

Hey SeanBM you are cheeky I think. To matthew142 don't think you are boring just proud. My father was born in Poland and it was only after he died that we went to find out more about the country. Sadly he never returned to the Poland that he new because his new life was in the UK. He would never have thought that barriers would come down and that people would be able to travel freely. So stay besotted I think it is great that we Brits can go and see the beautiful country that we have inherited in our hearts. Yes yes soppy but I love the country and the people. Plus another thing if the wrong type of Brits go to Poland (the drunken stupid ones) it would be good if the Polish police would pick them up throw them in a cell and throw away the key. This country does not need those sort of Brits going.

Hi shelly, it is a bit sad but believe me we had such a large Polish community over here in the UK it was a bit like having a Polish life. I cannot tell you how much hospitality the Polish people give out and all my friends used to think our parties were great because my dad made sure everyone had a great time. Although I am I suppose very English there was always a part of me that didn't fit. It couldn't be explained it was just there. When me and my family go to Poland I feel so at home it is as if I belong there. I hope to make many more visits but till then I will just have to look at my photographs and dream. = Soppy aren'tI

Maybe SeanBM it would have to be my heart...ha ha

Winter is coming late but it is coming now, minus one outside now. So I will be taking out my snowboard soon, I hope.

I think this time of year is always a little melancholic but life goes on.
How are you getting on with a "Teaching English as a Foreign language" (TEFL) or the like, courses ?
When is your big move over here?

You will just have to be flirty then. Nothing wrong with that. I will just have to keep an eye on you both though, can't have naughty goings on not with a flying spaghetti monster on the loose.

Hi shelly good luck with the move - it would appear that we are all married but a bit of fun over cyberspace is not a bad thing. Keeps the brain active I think. Do keep in touch. Is stargord gdanski the same as the city of Gdansk? The Polish language and the way it is spoken is very difficult for me to grasp, I am trying- honest.

I guess depends on what field, and where you are coming from. Anyone from a 3rd world country may appreciate Poland.

Also, some fields pay quite well in Poland for the expertise and international experience a foreigner will bring, that a regular Pole may not have.

A friend was paid the average salary for his field in the US (making good money in US standards). He looked into and got a job in the same field in Warsaw and makes 3 times what he did in the US.

How Safe Are the Polish Cities?  Good place to live in Poland?

Random: Does it make sense to move from the UK to Wroclaw for this salary?
