Reliable Weather Service In PL?

nauczyciel Edited by: nauczyciel  Nov 13, 07, 11:36    #1
I don't rely on any of them. For instance- on Sunday night,

Onet.pl said it was raining, +4
Wetter.com said it was cloudy, +3
Yahoo.com said light snow shower, -1

yet the sky was completely clear and I could see stars in all directions. :S

metcheck dot com might do it, but does anyone know how the weather will be?
I reckon forecasting has improved a lot since the days of weathermen with stick-on clouds.
Does anywhere in the world still have stick-on clouds (that sometimes fall off the map)?

Did you check Poland or did you do a city check ?

This was correct for Wroclaw.

Try out weather.co.uk and type in the name of the city. It is normally not too bad just dont rely on the long term forecast.

This one is very accurate, and is developed by the UK Meteorological Office, and run at ICM by the Scientific Meteorological Office in Warsaw University. I have used it for two years now and it is very accurate. URL

Just put your mouse over the place on the map and click and it will bring up a three day forecast. If you click on New website: new.meteo.pl , it will bring up a whole load of maps to do with:
mean sea level pressure
temperature + stream lines
surface temperature
precipitation
wind
visibility
low clouds
medium clouds
high clouds
total cloudiness

Does anyone have any other recommendations?
I'll be in Gorlice from the 17th to the 21st, and the current long range forecast for there and then is cool and wet. Daytime highs around 17-22 C (63-72 F) and nighttime lows in the 7-11 C (44-52 F) range. That’s a lot cooler than I would have guessed – and it’ll probably be even cooler when we move to Wysowa on the 21st, because it’s closer to the mountains.
Is this weather typical for these areas at this time of year? I would have thought it would be warmer.

that is your monthly average probably, for tomorrow Gorlice have
17 C morning 20 noon 30 afternoon 25 evening

I sometimes find online cameras as reliable source to check weather - good to SEE what is like sometimes.

Great idea - know of any in or around Gorlice, or south of there?
I found this site today - I hope it's correct, because I'm seeing a much better forecast here!

wunderground.com
Reliable in my opinion, it even gives you the location it is getting the forecast from. A city, airport, etc.

How far in advance are you checking ?

If you're looking for a 5 day or 10 day forecast then it's basically an educated guess regardless of who is giving the forecast.

Yes, I know. Sometimes I wonder why I bother checking - often they can't even tell you with a high degree of accuracy how it's going to be tomorrow, much less 5 or 6 days from now. My biggest concern is for the 5 days from Wednesday the 16th through Sunday the 20th, as that's when I have the most outdoor activities on my agenda. The area we'll be in will be from Gorlice east to Pielgrzymka and south to Zdynia.

I agree - Wunderground was accurate in Chicago but not in Kraków. Is weather forecasting inherently more difficult in Europe than it is in America?

it often is (not always)

anyway some basic meteorological knowlegde and a couple of sources can inform you quite precisely about the weather - I advise www.pogodynka.pl radar pictures for incoming rainfall and satelite images to see weather there is gonna be sunny or cloudy

wunderground has got model weather maps that include estimated amount of rainfall which is quite reliable in 3-4 days prospect so you can make some outdoor activity planning ahead

thought i would dig this up.

last 2 days it was overcast & about 0 - +2'c

on all weather services it said that it was snowing all day with accumulations to 1.7mm. with PoP @ 85%.

well done guys!! <thumbs up> I guess they are on urlop with the rest of Pl.

so i ran out of time while editing this

but on the positive side..... no snow to contend with, hence not having to hear the groundskeeper scrape the front door & walkway area the mornings after snowfall at 6am. :/. f-tard.

last week after it rained in the day and froze all the slush overnight, he was out there trying to scrape all the ice off at 530am. WTF?? that is not a quiet procedure. I yelled out my window "cicho b±dæ" That worked long enuf for him to have a smoke and get started again. So I yelled out again. he gave up.

Does he not comprehend that ppl are maaaaaaaaybe sleeping at that time? :/

Talk about raising your blood pressure so you can't get any sleep. I was ruined for the rest of the day.

For Warsaw, BBC weather seems to be more accurate than local forecasts.

If you're close to an airport, a METAR is accurate for immediate weather, and the TAF (usually 8-12 hours) is based on what a local meteorologist at the airport thinks the weather will look like.

As mentioned above, Pogodynka has good radar images

Euclid is good for tracking thunderstorms

If you learn a little something about how weather works, the forecast maps are goldmines. Not so much for exact temperatures, but they will usually tell you what kind of sky you can expect.

For more in depth forecasting of temps, the 16 day plots are pretty good

so here today it is snowing hard. At least 3cm on the ground in last hour.

Onet claims it is -2 & raining with 0.5mm accumulation of snow but 0mm rain. WTF?

Good Work on the weather

it cant be raining if the temp is - 2, looks as though the uploader forgot to put a snow sign instead of rain or maybe a bug in the system. Many reasons i suppose either way its a sloppy system.

I have always used weather.co.uk and i find it extremely reliable.

Thread attached on merging:
Weather forecasts

I checked this morning the weather forecast for Warsaw on 2 websites:
pogoda.onet.pl and www.pogodynka.pl.
And as always they show really big dfferences. Which weather site do you find the most reliable?
Pogodynka ought to be, they are run by the IMGW (Polish Meteorological Institute).
Still...
