Hi,

I´ll probably be workin in wroclaw next month. and there are some questions i would like to put to anyone that lives or lived there:

How much to rent a 1 bed small flat or apartment?

Can u live with 500 ou 600 euros, after tax in wroclaw, and have a reasonable standard of living? I´m single and would be working there for one year!

Thank u for your help

Is the rent included in the 500-600 euros (I assume it's your monthly salary, not weekly?).

Hi,

I have just rented a small studio flat today. It's nice and clean but not very luxurious, about 20 minutes from the Wroclaw rynek. It's 1200PLNa month plus utilities and a deposit of 1200. I guess, it's a pretty much standard price. September and october are the high season for finding a place to live bucause all the students are coming back to town. Good luck in Wroclaw.

it´s monthly and does not include housing. The job is at HP. would 700 euros net be ok?

I really dont expect to make much money there but it would be an excellent opportunity to work at HP, but if i cant make a decent living then....!

I would say - you will be ok, but don't expect to visit a restaurant every day.. It seems like an average (or a little below average) salary in Wroclaw..

I am now in the market for renting a place.. I am hoping to follow some leads.

On the other hand, I would like to know more about the deal with the real estate agents ? What are their commissions like and how quick can they normally turn around and get me a place?

Wow that is still very cheap rent, hear in the UK i am currently paying £1100 (about 6000PLN) per month not including council tax and utility bills, this is for a 2 bedroom flat.. When you say small place, how small do you mean ?

Is Wrolaw a cheaper place to live than Poznan?

Thanks

Hi Zix
I have lived here for some time and hope the following advice might be useful.
Rents in Wroclaw are among the highest in Poland, (partly because of HP and other foreign companies). A 20-25 m2 flat will cost you about 1000-1300 pln depending on how close to the centre you want to be. This is unfortunately the worst time of the year to find anything, because of returning students. Try and avoid estate agents, and instead use the local newspaper; AutoGielda, is a good place to start. The nicest place to live, in my humble opinion are Biskupin, Krzyki, Sepolno, but these are also the most expensive. Public transport is excellent and cheap.

Thank you PPete.
I`ll try AutoGielda, but the language...:)
Since u say public transport is good i wont mind satying further from city centre if i can find better price/size ratios.
I`ve seen that prices are high, so i`m starting to think that i should have asked for more.
But if 1000 is enough i wont mind, after a year i`m still there i`ll ask for more.

1000 euros is some 3800 pln, do you think that if i rent for 1400 1600 i can live with 2100 to 2000 in wroclaw?
Pay the bills ( eletricity, water, heating, cleaning ) of the house and have money to go to work, buy groceries, coffe, half a pack of cigarretes a day ?
Thanks

Hi Zix
Pln 3800 is plenty to live on here, many people do well on less. Are you in Poland yet. My girlfriend works at HP in Renoma, perhaps I can help you if we get in touch, you got an email address?

Hi Gavin, I would say that Poznan is cheaper, Wroclaw in second only to Warsaw in price terms. This is because Wroclaw is a fast growing and increasingly cosmopolitan city with loads of foreign companies moving here. But its probably the coolest city in Poland, not too many tourists and plenty of things to do both in the city and in the nearby mountains.

Hi All,

My wife and I are thinking about moving to Wroclaw during the beginning of 2010. There are a couple of things which we can not seem to get a concrete answer about.

For two educated persons like ourselves, with a BA in International Business and 3 years + profesional work experience, would anybody have an idea as to how much we can expect to be earning in Wroclaw?

Also a concern of mine has to do with groups of street guys who have the tendancy of beating people up for fun. We hear that this is a common nusance in places throughout Poland. Is this common in Wroclaw as well?

Furthermore how is the general safety in Wroclaw and what are the places in to avoid in the city?

Thank you kindly all information is welcome about these topics!!!!

Yeah you cannot go to the shop without packs of feral street gangs making your life hell.

Where did you hear such tales?

the only time you might find trouble is when there is a football match and you find yourself in the wrong part of town at the wrong time.

just to put you at ease

It's been a few years since anyone was killed after such an encounter.

Wroclaw is no different to any other city safetywise.

Are there jobs for English speakers at the big corporations in Wroclaw (examples HP, Google, etc.) or is everyone expected to know Polish and do their work in Polish?

I'm a U.S. citizen but since my mother was born in Poland, I am entitled to polish citizenship/EU citizenship if I go through the process. I've sometimes considered moving but my polish is limited. It's nowhere near a professional or business standard necessary.

Chamo  Jun 11, 09, 09:56    #22
Actually, my wifes family lives in Radom and we go there regularly, so sometimes as a foreigner there are problems around.

Its great to know that Wroclaw is a safe city, I've lived in Caracas and the last thing you need is to be watching your back all of the time just like over there.

And as far as finding work in Wroclaw, is that a problem for a person who does not speak polish but has a good education?

Thank you everybody!!

Probably not going to happen unless you get with a multinational company prior to coming. Moving to Poland and trying to get a job as an engineer without speaking Polish would be near impossible. You also have to deal with immigration issues. You will need a work permit that is given only after you can prove you have a job....that permit is part of the documents necessary to establish legal residency on the grounds of employment in Poland.
