Vandalism on cars in Poland

Hi all!

I'm new on this forum. I am a foreginer from a latin american country with southern european appearance. I had lived in 3 western european countries abd now in Poland. I have bought a car, thats an old Mercedes w202 1996. The thing is that I have been experienced vandalism. Firstly, they took away the mercedes star. I thought, it might have been a drunk guy, so no problem I put a new one. 2 weeks after the first incident, someone fully scratched the car on both sides. I started to park the car in another place ( I was parking the car next to a student house) and I didn't have problems for around 2 months. Until one day, I just parked the car again next to a student house, and once agian It got vandalized. Someone jumped on the roof !!!

Now I have to put a camara and only park the car where I can film it. So, I cannot move the car during the working days, because if I won't get an available parking place where I can film it , then It could get vandalized once again.

There are some nice poles who have told me, that when their parents buy a car, it often gets also vandalized.

So, what do you think guys? This **** me really off, I have no problems with anyone here and I was starting to ''love'' this country, until this happend 3 times. Sometimes I think there were those ''kurwa boys'' which are all the time drunk outside the building, which have a huge inferiority complex. All the time complain about no having money, no having a job etc, and blame someone else but they don't look to themselves first that they only are drunk.

There is someone jealous around and I have no idea who he is

By the way.... In Germany, Poland has a very bad reputation regarding vandalism/damage on cars. Many people in Germany told me about this, but I thought it wouldn't be any problem since I would have polish registration. So it seems it is a common behaviour among the ''kurwa boys''.

why do you think this is like that? ,

In Germany, Poland has a very bad reputation regarding vandalism/damage on cars.

For example in Poland, United Kingdom has a very bad reputation regarding vandalism/damage/setting fire on cars. So you can see that it may be only a prejudice.

I have two cars one old and one contemporary and I have never experienced any act of vandalism. Of course before the year 2004 they tried steal a whole car several times but these guys were thieves not vandals.

Mostly scratching or nails/flat tyres is war for parking places or correct parking habbit. Mercedes star is well known problem so don't buy metal but plastic imitation.

I have bought a car, thats an old Mercedes w202 1996.


Playstation generation has no respect for classic cars so buy a newer car (they may think he is rich don't mess with him ;) or leave it on guarded parking.

sorry to hear about your problems with the car

is there a guarded car park near to where you live?

which city do you live in?
I find that senseless vandalism of cars and joy riding is much less than in the UK
Outright car theft is a problem in Poland though

friends of mine once parked outside a guarded car park and they caught the guy
who worked at the car park vandalising their car, clearly he was touting for trade

I 've lived for 6 years in Warsaw Poland and was constantly horrified by the car length scratches to be seen on cars, once or twice terrible scratch damage done to bonnets too. My last car was lightly scratched down the whole of one side for what i only guessed was for parking 'to' near a gate, another occassion a big cock was drawn on the bonnet...perhaps a warning, wiper blades are often to be found lifted...again I think a type of warning. The worst however happened recently to my new car which was deeply key scratches down front arch and drivers door....thanks.
Ive managed to console myself that these acts are done by people with less manners, honour and civility than slugs, they are jealouse spitefull and sad. I only pity them and am thankfull to be leaving

oh and my advice ...only either have a crap car, one with local number plates preferably, try not to let anyone overhear you speaking another language near your car or just dont park in the street.

sometimes you are one deluded guy pawian who lives in the world of his dreams or imaginations

it just take a couple of stupid directionless teenagers who are free to roam at night - there have been cars burned in some vicinity in Warsaw quite recently by some such youth

I have lived in Gdansk for four years, and I have seen it all too often. I love this city, but reality is what it is. Have you seen the grafitti here?

I think pawian was merely sarcastic. Funnily no one of you has noticed it. I understand that foreigners could not grasp the very specific Polish way of expressing sarcasm, but you gumishu? :)

Guys, I haven`t noticed such things in Krakow, t hat is why I cannot believe that they are happening in Warsaw or Gdańsk. In another thread I said that the last time my car was vandalised was in 1998 or something.

I think that vandalism is perpetrated by foreigners, especially British tourists on stag parties.

there are no British stag parties in Warsaw to speak of - and no - they don't go around the residential areas at night jumping on the cars

I was in the Tricity a couple of years ago (2007) for over a month in the early summer - there weren't any foreign tourists visible in Gdańsk save for the historic centre and the hotels (and I haven't seen any stag party - maybe they crawl out for the night)

I haven`t noticed such things in Krakow

Two out of four visits to Krakow, I,ve had my cars done in. I make that 50 %.

It is so unbelievable

Believe it.

Solution: I bought a 20year old Cinquecento to run around in. It doesn,t hurt so bad when someone dings it. Plus it,s a fun car and easy to find parking. My best acquisition in Poland to date........ I love it. lol

I have been looking at a lot of cars (need to buy one) in Krakow and haven't noticed any vandalism. Out right car theft is another matter.

In 60,000 miles around Poland over the course of five years i only ever had one wing mirror stolen. The roads on the other hand inflicted much more damage.

For those who doesn't know it yet. If a homeless is showing you a free place to park he doesn't do it out of kindness, he expects some small "reward" for it...

yes of course, a foreginer owns a car in Poland and that is enough provocation for some poles to vandalize it.

I have never said all Poles are like that. One Pole helped me to buy the car, one Pole helped me to find a place where it can get fixed. But unfortunately there are that small procent of poles which vandalize cars for no reason. As I mentioned before also some cars of Poles get vandalized but the likelihood of your car to get vandalized is much higher if you are a foreinger. This seems to be independently if the foreigner is european/asian/african etc... the fact that a foreginer owns a nicer car than other Poles do, is enough reason for some of those kurwa boys to do bullsh*t. Sometimes the car doesn't even need to be nice. After those incidents, I have been observing more carefully other cars and a LOT have deep scratches and in some of them , people have jumped on the roof as well. This only shows the inferiority complex of those b*stards

Cinquecento is a very common car in Poland. The biggest problem with it is that it offers no safety whatsoever in case of an accident. And safety in a car is highly important specially while having a lot of maniac drivers around.... like in Poland
