Warsaw ranks 84th out of 221 cities in a world ‘Quality of living’ index by the Mercer advisory company.

Judged on criteria including safety, education and health systems, culture, environment and recreation, the ranking sites Vienna as having the world’s best quality of living and Baghdad the worst.

In Central and eastern Europe, Prague is the highest-ranking city at number 70 followed by Budapest (73) and Ljubljana in (77). Warsaw moved up one place from last year’s index. Warsaw was judged to have one of the worst qualities of life in the region.

“Quality of living standards remained relatively stable on a global level throughout 2009 and the first half of 2010, but in certain regions and countries the economic recession had a noticeable impact on the business climate,” according to Slagin Parakatil, Senior Researcher at Mercer. (pg)

Property prices are set to increase.

How is being ranked 84th considered a big win?

Only in Poland could being ranked 84th constitute something worth mentioning.

Unless we're being ironic, then I say this was a fairly pointless post.

I don't trust this ranking Krakow, Wroclaw and Poznan do not make it into the top 50 BUT CHICAGO DOES!!

Avoid the "dark" areas and it is a very nice city.

The point being that it is the first time Warsaw has gained some standing in this survey, please be more positive...

Hmmm. Prague only reached the 70s mark.

Dublin is 26th(I was only taking the **** when I said Dublin should be in the top ten).

Dublin a better city than Barca, Prague, Boston and SF etc. etc.:)

Dublins a kip. A loveable, loveable kip. Its me home and I love the shop. But its still a kip. I would take this "study" with a large bucket full of salt.

Half of the population of native Dubliners are stark raving mad. I am still laughing at Dublin being the "26th best city to live in, in the world". Dublin is an open mental asylum!

Great city to visit, but.

Of course it ranks in the top 50! Why do you think that more Ex-Poles live in Chicago than any other city outside of Warsaw??

Your username is incorrect. It is spelt "Polak".

Get it right. :)

Pollock is a fish. A nice one at that. Goes well with a single lashed outta it with salt and vinegar. A can of fizzy orange. Job done.

Point taken, the Irish are full of fun, at least the Poles have something to talk about, they too have a lot of fun, you just have to find it.

Those rankings are so funny. Is Vancouver still the top of the world ?
with their inner-metro ghetto , makes it desirable no doubt.

These rankings are stupid.

East Van or no east Van, I'd still rather live in Vancouver than most cities in North America.

Not quite. In a number of country dialects of Polish, 'Polak' would be said 'Polok', so the Chicago people of that Polish descent would spell it 'Pollock' in English.

You have a good point.
When you read that Chicago's standard of living is better the Warsaw... You know something smells "fishy" here.

Well, Detroit isn't exactly a prototype of the American Dream, isn't it? I once had a layover of half a day in the airport there, coming from SF, and I decided to view the Motown museum...Man, you really come past some bad areas of that city...

What's actually the top ten?

>^..^<

M-G (thinks Minneapolis is a very nice city and should be mentioned in that list)

I didn't know that. TheOther, thanks for providing the list. Amsterdam is 12th I saw.

M-G (well, after all, A'dam is a pretty decent city to live in. I've been to Mnpls quite a few times and I already noticed that they take really good care of the city; the area around Nicollet Mall, at least)

I was really astonished to see Auckland, NZ, so high up on the list. That city is a dump full of gangs and (what the Kiwis call) boy racers.

Are you illiterate? I was being sarcastic. The study is largely flawed.
