In fact, as you read this, you are probably slowly poisoning yourself with mercury leaking from those “silver” fillings.

Well, we have quite tough regulations in the UK, so Im going to trust me dentist on what he says.

My fillings have been in for quite some time and I feel just fine..so, I think I'll take my chances.

My dentist doesn't use amalgram fillings. Here's a story from The Washington Post on the safety of amalgram fillings and what the FDA said about them. Seems the FDA considers them safe, Cheehaw, but not very safe.

FDA Rules Mercury Amalgam Fillings Safe
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's long-awaited final regulation on the use of mercury amalgam for dental fillings issued Tuesday deems the material safe, while at the same time moving the material from the Class I (low risk) medical-device category to Class II (moderate risk). This allows for tighter control over its manufacture and use

I also meant this light heartedly, I wasn't making stabs at larger cities....I realise it didn't come out that way.

I didn't mean to sound vicious.. sorry if I did. I just don't want guests from foreign countries to think that they are being ripped off just because some polish native says that he pays less (and forgets to mention that he's having a refund)

I am polish, but I am native British, I don't have a pesel number, and I don't get treatment na kasie zdrowych, or something like that, that is available to polish residents.
I didn't get a refund and I didn't get a discount.
That is the price he charges everyone that isn't done on the polish healthcare service. (:

Just to correct you, white fillings are not NHS - they are considered "private" hence the price, £60 is about right.

Thank you, that was my point, that I would have to pay £60 privately, otherwise that would defy the point of free healthcare...I should have been clearer (:

Dentistry is a major industry, also the sale of mercury amalgam. The american dental association itself owns patents to amalgam formulas, it all about money for them, not health for you.

The logic of mercury amalgam is pretty much equivalent to the logic of flouridated water.

flouride was, probably still is, used by the chinese to keep their imprisoned workers docile. the nazis used it for the same thing. It actually is very bad for your bones, a leading cause of osteoporisis. Horses drink a lot of water, when they drink highly flouridated water they develop lung cancer and die within months.

There are some good videos at youtube about it.

OMFG... amalgam fillings , my grandmother was having that **** done during the USSR years (late 60's-70s) - the thing with amalgam is that eventually it expands and leads to the tooth breaking.

as for dentist prices, the best thing is to go to a small town , it costs 50zl in Wielkopolska.
(and that was two fillings in one session)

people tend to think that by going to a village of 3000 or less inhabitants and the building looks nasty that the dentist must be crap and nasty tooo, not the case.

In the towns(cities) is where the Dentists Aren't THICK, and THEY can TELL you CAN AFFORD IT (just like count a price of a PKP ticket from Poznan to Warszawa ....)

so my best advice, if you have tooth problems - ie. need a filling. Go out to the country, go to one town, in case the dentist asks where u from(all country people are nosy everywhere) say you from the larger town in the Powiat in which town you went to- the dentist is not bound to know you.

SO THERE....... I wouldnt pay more than 60zl per tooth.
getting a Bridge done, or an Implant - now this is where the country dentist will not help you , because they have to order their thing from the technician which comes to more - but still can save money if you are willing to going out to the countryside!

230 for one cavity

- I'd expect this to be a price of a good and [expensive] renowned dentist and/or with best equipment. OR you had a VERY large cavity...
I paid about 80 zloty for teeth fluorization for example, can't advise on filling prices though.
