What about a Grand Prix of Poland in the future ?

Poland could be the next destination to bid for a grand prix, according to reports.

Gdansk, a large port city in the north of the country, is planning a 5.7 kilometre circuit, to be built at a cost of some (US) $285 million, the German news agency 'sid' claimed.

The popularity of Formula One in the central European country has increased considerably with the success of BMW-Sauber's Polish race driver, Robert Kubica.

What do you think about it ? It could be great ;)

$285 million? Jesus, is it going to be gold plated?

There are too many F1 tracks being built and only so many races, so it could end up as yet another racetrack

LoL ;) But it could be good to enhance Formula 1 in Poland !
So maybe we will have a Polish "Szumacher" in a few years :p Thanks to Kubica AND the super $285 million track of Gdansk ;)

The funds are not from the State ;) It's said that Gdansk (the city where the track is supposed to be built) is looking for sponsors...so if you know someone who has too much money and don't know what to do with it...think of it ;p LoL

I really can't see this happening, Poland is full of grand ideas like this but it never takes off. They would probably do better to put some money into the Poznan circuit and get that up to a decent standard.

It states in the article that Poland has never had a Grand Prix. This is not strictly true as is the idea that Kubica is Poland's first F1 driver. From 1930 to 1933 there was a Polish Grand Prix held on a street circuit around Lvov with plenty of Polish drivers participating and winning.

Quoting: JWB
Poland has never had a Grand Prix

not an F1 variety.. there are plenty "big purse" races out there that are not F1 though.
