Is PF the place where the foreigners get the real image of Poland?
Does it create good or bad image of Poland and polish people?
Did it encourage you to visit / to live in Poland or did you change your mind?
How the experiences shared here corresponds with yours?
Do you think there is too much pointless discussion on unimportant matters?
Do you think that the atmosphere here is friendly, neutral or hostile?

Just wondering... ;)

I seems this forum paints a fairly broad picture of Poland, the good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful. And huge amounts of pointless waffle to be taken with a liberal pinch of salt. Highly entertaining

The question I have is very similar,
How many Polish people living in Poland are on this site?

Actually I found this website a couple of years ago but didn't join up at the time because I was put off by what seemed to me to be a large number of racist comments/threads.

Then a year or so ago I found this site again whilst googling for stuff about Poland and figured that that aside it looked like a good resource...

there are few groups of users:

1) poles from poland
2) poles currently living out of PL
3) people of polish descent
4) foreigners living in poland
5) foreigners married to / dating poles and living out of pl
6) foreigners interested in PL for different reasons

am I missing smth?

yeah...a year ago it was a super fun forum, friendly people (old members who don't show up here anymore or very rarely), interesting debating about Poland (not Russia, UK, USA...)... i notice that the level is slightly lower now...
time for a change?
:)

I dont believe theres too many, most of them get shot down within a few posts for various issues. Probably the majority of members here are British.

Also although many Polish people speak English i would say that perhaps 10% of them can't write it properly and therefore are embarrased to post.

and they shouldn't be because many native English speakers can't write properly in its own language...

yeah... they should take a hike...

And what about the number of supposed English speaking Posters, who'se English is so atrocious that they should be too embarrassed to post...

Ha ha ha ha, yes, exactly.

I think you are right, so should the question be "the image of Poland according to British"?

The people who annoy me most are the rude ones who have no interest in Poland or in anything else for that matter and when I first joined I thought this was rubbish but I learned who was a "good" poster and not. So now do not bother with some posters and I have found fantastic info about Poland and about people in general. So I think it just takes time.

No as i go to the country anyways

McCoy:

Does it create good or bad image of Poland and polish people?

depends on the poster doesnt it

McCoy:

Did it encourage you to visit / to live in Poland or did you change your mind?

i had been visiting Poland since 2003 and i joined this group in 2006 so i guess the answer is NO

I try to keep my private life off the board

Yes but majority gets purged on a monthly basis then someone comes along and starts it again ...

Everyone is entitled to voice their beliefs . opinions and values without the need to force them on the public ... :)

I don't think there are enough Polish people on here to create an accurate portrayal tbh either way... Knowing Polish people in my workplace is a different experience being on this forum.

No.

You could think about how many people in the world can't have the internet or just can't be bothered with it. Some people even have the internet censored by their lovely cotton-wool governents. Then, you could think about all those people who do use the internet, but use it for facebook, buying music and downloading pornography rather than visiting Polish Forums.

After that, we are left with the tiny fraction of the world's population who have visited Polish Forums at least once in their lives. Of these people, I would guess that most already have their preconceived ideas of what Poland is like, either because their Polish and come from Poland, because they once opened an Atlas, they wondered where it was their strangely named great grandmother came from and looked it up, because they live in another nearby country that has some knowledge, understanding or sterotypical view of Poland, blah blah blah...

That's why I said no. Would the short answer have done the trick?

It depends what you might call the "real" image. If you say that people don't get any vision of Poland at all then the site might as well close down. There are many threads regarding Real Life in Poland whether it's about Real Estate questions or driving in Poland there are hints of Real Poland all over the site. There are many threads (and posts) here which give a good round view of daily life in Poland.

These are just an innconente questions ;). I was wondering what image of Poland would I get after reading PF if I were a foreigner who has never been to my country. I think the forums give deformed picture of poland. And I can't say with strong conviction that PF are the best promotion for Poland. It's nice place, though

Of course the view of Poland on this website are going to be distorted, its like looking something up on wikipedia, you don't know where the information has come from or how genuine and true to life it is.

Most of the threads, posts and comments on this website are people's own views or their personal experiences. No website for any nation can possibly give you a 'real' view or discription of Poland.

the views are so different on here, one minute Poland is a 'hell hole' of a country full of racists and the next minute its the business epicentre of Europe where everybody will welcome you into their house and look after you :)

The Polish Forums world is a world which is made up of PF members. This Poland (right here) is different than the Poland I am sitting on.

The Poland of PF has an Admin (the All knowing, all wise, all powerful and omipotent, eternal). The Poland I sit on have a democratic goverment... much different.

You forgot to mention that All your posts and All posts of other members here are pre-moderated. And that Admin participates in all threads to make sure the point of the discussions is exactly what he wanted.

Based on your statement I wouldn't be surprised you truly believe in such nonsense I wrote above.

Based on your statement

I am just a brave man... :) ... not everyone got the guts to speak up.

What am I suggesting is a thread where people could discuss about Polish Forums itself. I think you sir, should reconsider this ...

There are many threads discussing PF in this "FAQ & Feedback" forum and this is a good place to discuss it indeed. You provided your point, I provided mine.
