ok, now I am irrititated, every time I come back I have less and less private mail
space, I do not disagree that people who pay or donate should get alot of space
but dont give it to us and then take it back, its already bad enough I had to take
a break from certain things on here but I come back to the one place I thought was cool
and they take space from my private messages??

its funny how other places let you keep what you have and not take away, but
then you come back to the one site that you think /thought was better then all the
rest, and its become worse.

that really sucks... and I dont talk smack about those in control but today I feel
pretty cheated.. guess just being a long time member doesnt account for anything
anymore same as all the rest of the world and how stupid they have become with
long standing members,, it means nothing apparently.

course those of us who are working 120 hours plus every two weeks trying to make
ends meet in this major messed up economy, they say is getting better, but where???

so yeah, take take take,, indian givers~

Little by little its shrinking.

so why?? is there a daily criteria? we have to live in polish forums?

my inbox held 30 messages then it would tell me I couldnt get anymore.
well now, its like 15 messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something that was given to members.. the way I remember it.. now, i guess
they re-nig on what was allowed to us.

pretty shady, no wonder People get mad.

I understand many people come here to chat, relax and have fun - that's fine.. But it doesn't mean that those who provide the service are having fun at the same time :). Are all comedians or comedy actors working for free just because they appear to have fun when they are 'working'? How about artists, it seems it's so much fun to do what they do and it comes so natural to most of them; then why would they want people to buy them a dinner?

When you go to a pub to relax after a 14-hr work, do you expect the bartender to give you a drink for free? Why not, the bartender looks to be doing well, he's got all the drinks in the world on the shelves, he looks handsome, the place is tidy and well maintained, there's nice music playing in the background, he's even got a pretty Polish barmaid helping him.

I'm not directing it to Patrycja because she used to be a GOLD member (as far as I remember). Just putting general thoughts ;).

When there's less than two GOLD memberships a month then it means something is 'broken,' so the script is looking for ways to get more members 'motivated' to get a GOLD membership.

its not even just about that, when you gave us the private message box , it held 30
messages!!

now I came in last night and it says my inbox was full. and there was only one message
sent to me, and it was only at 17 messages.

so is that fair???

Im not asking for anymore then what I was given!! that was given to me as part of
membership to this forum.

all of the sudden things changed?? I understand things arent for free, but
I would expect to keep what I had at least..

I dont care what your server is doing, yahoo adds space and every other website
gives it.. and no I never became a gold member, all it offers is a chance to look and
see who was on in the last hour, and its not current, and more inbox space, but
I wonder how much space those paying get, because the free pm box was 30
in and out.. now its lower.

if its a glitch in the system, then fine, I apologize, but I doubt it, I think its getting
to be like everything else..

you know i have never brought up this, or went against admin, but lets put it this
way,, would you give me a car and take it away because you felt like it??

would you take me to dinner only to pull plate away and say well, money is required
by you, even though you had offered.

or would you tell a comic, who has just wowed the crowd, well, I know I said you
could have some drinks on the house but I decided to put it on tab anyways

or would you be upset if someone gave you some inbox space and then came back
later with his hammer and knocked your mailbox down?

just examples. maybe what you think makes sense to you, but what I say makes
sense to me too, so as a long standing member, gold , pink, blue, red or purple
I would appreciate if someone would please return my inbox.

[3] - Gold members can store up to 100 messages in their Inbox while regular members can store 15 messages.

Does that help? its from the TOS of Polish Forums.

Admin runs this site form his own pocket, theres no such thing as a free lunch.

Who knows what Admins financial situation is, America is in recession right, perhaps hes a little tight. Ever think of that? the site has been running since 2006 and he's paying for it himself till recently.

Most memebers dont even come here to talk Poland they come here for general unrelated chit chat. So should Admin pay for that too?

I think there's some kind of a bug because sometimes the limit is 15 and sometimes it shows "mailbox full" until I delete till I have for instance 11 private messages - then it turns to normal which is really strange.

it distracts from discussion about PL and i know how much admin hates stuff that doesn't go along with the topic.. just look at all the rules..

Well, Patty, mine went down to 10. Quite a drop from the priveleges of being a Gold Member. You can always just erase some from your contact list and then click onto one of their posts to reply.

the solution would be to cut and paste all your messages to the hard drive, keep an archive, use your own hard disk space instead of Admins bandwidth.

True, that's another option. I'm with WB on this one, Admin puts in a lot of work into what is, after all, a free service. There are those who do their utmost to profit from making technology work and there are others that just do their utmost to make it work.

The collective benefit of others must enter into the thinking IMHO.

Or you could just use your mailboxes... it'd be nice if there was a SMTP server or something like that... it would just send those messages to our email accounts, hence there'd be no archiving and email data storage..
if not - there's always room for you email in your profile ; o
cut and paste mechanisms of any sort would demand some kind of a client software on users pc's, probably a database, too much of a hassle ;o

Admin has already provided a link in your mailbox to export your pm's to a file, which can be read by your browser.

there is the DL function how in the PM area... but seriously, what kind of bandwith does it take? surely can't be any more then half the stupid threads in off topic, eh?

Yes that's what I said, didn't I? Moreover there could be an email server that'd do it automatically without the need to use additional client on your pc..

Yet we can have 34 messages in the "Sent" mailbox and the software doesn't complain! lol.

Fair comment, but I think you've missed the point a little.

1. No-one forces you to run this site; likewise, you can decide who can join (or remain). Running a message board is a bit like putting up a poster on a wall, with the message "write comments here" on it. If you do that, you can't really complain if people write messages which you don't agree with (legal issues considered).

2. Most sites like this are run as an adjunct to a site admin's main business... a little like the "loss-leaders" which supermarkets run - they may lose money on baked beans, but they make it back on cream cakes. Or they start a BB to advertise their business in some way. I don't imagine that you started this site as your main business - I expect you have some other kind of business which makes you your money. Maybe you should take some advertising if you can't get enough to run the site through the "gold member" system?

3. The main reason I would not pay to use any website is because there are always alternatives. Also, if I did contribute financially to this site, I would still not get any say whatsoever in how it's run, or receive any financial benefit ( like e.g. share dividends, if I owned shares). Apart from a few extra messages in my inbox, there are few benefits of any kind. So why bother? Even if I paid £1000 to join this site, I could still be banned from using it a few days later. So why should I waste my money if the benefits are few and my money is at risk if I speak out of turn?

4. There are many things I like about this site, but the mods do seem to overdo "binning" off-topic messages. As WB said, it's a fact of real and online life: people DO go off-topic. Maybe the mods should spend more time on moderating-out hate-speech and spam, rather than worrying about bandwidth allegedly lost on off-topic chat; most of these thread get back on-topic pretty quickly anyway. If you're worried about bandwidth, how about placing greater restrictions on image sizes and video links? The "What I'm listening to" thread is sometimes unloadable, due to the amount of data used to display the Youtube links. This would save far more bandwidth than binning "off-topic" messages which simply say "lol" or ":)" and little else.

Admin:
Just putting general thoughts ;).

Likewise, so I hope I'm not flamed/banned for saying this lol :D

No-one forces anyone to use this site.

Could you name one at least? Maybe those who are very unhappy will migrate there.

NorthMancPolak:

Then why do you give tips or do donations - you don't get anything in return. Unless you don't do it at all then it's understandable.

NorthMancPolak:

Even if someone is suspended, it doesn't last more than 24hrs. And it takes a LOT to get someone suspended.

It's not about saving bandwidth on off-topic discussions - it's rather proactive thinking and preventing the domino effect. Off-topic discussions will eventually find more and more users who are interested in such discussions. If there are many unmoderated threads about 'Albonia stuff' then in time more and more users will find the site when they're looking about information about 'Albonia.' In result the site would become a site about 'Albonia', not about what it was originally created for.
