Patrycja19: my inbox held 30 messages then it would tell me I couldnt get anymore. well now, its like 15 messages!!!!!!! no wonder People get mad.
Yet we can have 34 messages in the "Sent" mailbox and the software doesn't complain! lol.
Admin: I understand many people come here to chat, relax and have fun - that's fine.. But it doesn't mean that those who provide the service are having fun at the same time :). Are all comedians or comedy actors working for free just because they appear to have fun when they are 'working'? How about artists, it seems it's so much fun to do what they do and it comes so natural to most of them; then why would they want people to buy them a dinner? When you go to a pub to relax after a 14-hr work, do you expect the bartender to give you a drink for free? Why not, the bartender looks to be doing well, he's got all the drinks in the world on the shelves, he looks handsome, the place is tidy and well maintained, there's nice music playing in the background, he's even got a pretty Polish barmaid helping him. When there's less than two GOLD memberships a month then it means something is 'broken,' so the script is looking for ways to get more members 'motivated' to get a GOLD membership.
Fair comment, but I think you've missed the point a little.
1. No-one forces you to run this site; likewise, you can decide who can join (or remain). Running a message board is a bit like putting up a poster on a wall, with the message "write comments here" on it. If you do that, you can't really complain if people write messages which you don't agree with (legal issues considered).
2. Most sites like this are run as an adjunct to a site admin's main business... a little like the "loss-leaders" which supermarkets run - they may lose money on baked beans, but they make it back on cream cakes. Or they start a BB to advertise their business in some way. I don't imagine that you started this site as your main business - I expect you have some other kind of business which makes you your money. Maybe you should take some advertising if you can't get enough to run the site through the "gold member" system?
3. The main reason I would not pay to use any website is because there are always alternatives. Also, if I did contribute financially to this site, I would still not get any say whatsoever in how it's run, or receive any financial benefit ( like e.g. share dividends, if I owned shares). Apart from a few extra messages in my inbox, there are few benefits of any kind. So why bother? Even if I paid £1000 to join this site, I could still be banned from using it a few days later. So why should I waste my money if the benefits are few and my money is at risk if I speak out of turn?
4. There are many things I like about this site, but the mods do seem to overdo "binning" off-topic messages. As WB said, it's a fact of real and online life: people DO go off-topic. Maybe the mods should spend more time on moderating-out hate-speech and spam, rather than worrying about bandwidth allegedly lost on off-topic chat; most of these thread get back on-topic pretty quickly anyway. If you're worried about bandwidth, how about placing greater restrictions on image sizes and video links? The "What I'm listening to" thread is sometimes unloadable, due to the amount of data used to display the Youtube links. This would save far more bandwidth than binning "off-topic" messages which simply say "lol" or ":)" and little else.
Admin: Just putting general thoughts ;).
Likewise, so I hope I'm not flamed/banned for saying this lol :D
