A reason for moving a thread would be nice so that I would know better the next time? Would this be possible to do? To move a thread without giving a reason is just rude, not unlike talking over someone in real life.

I had just posted this thread in General language and it got moved to the off topic forum. There is probably a reason for this but I don't know what it is.

I put "day" in inverted commas because I don't intend to post a word everyday but you are more than welcome to if you like.

Thanks Wroclaw. It would help though if a reason was given for moving a thread in future, in real life people would explain why they did something. I don't think that because we are on the internet that people should stop doing what they would do in real life(manners and treating people with respect, people should be even more careful on the internet because text can be easily misinterpreted, there is no body language etc. to go with it). The moderator should write their username also and not be annonymous, moderators are not some kind of secret police that need to hide inmho. If they are doing what is within the rules of the forum the members/guests shouldn't have any problem with the moderators. Moderators should be open and transparent in their actions.

These things would help me when I find something that I was working on just moved.

Many thanks.

catsoldier,

your post is noted. thank you.

however, modding methods are not likely to change over the short term.

i posted a thread a while ago, and it was randomized straight away. in a way can understand why because it was to do with stalag 8b. prisoner of war camp in poland. all i wanted was information from anyone who had family members incarcarated there. posted it again (saying pretty please to moderators) and it hasnt been moved so far, although doubt anyway will get much response...

One of the best posts I've seen in a while, but I'm surprised you didn't get banned for saying it ;)

That is what good moderation is about. All of those things are done on forums I would consider to have good moderators. Cynics will say that by "good", I really mean "mods who let you get away with anything you like". This is not true, though; I totally respect strict but fair moderators, as they tend to ensure that their boards are run with the minimum of disruption from trolls, etc. That doesn't happen here; on PF, it almost appears that trolls are encouraged, possibly to bump the forum up the "popularity" listings and/or to the top of search engine lists. There's no other reasonable explanation for it.

It's no wonder that so many "old school" posters have left here since the good old days, and they still can't attract more than 30 members online at a time.

I'm incredibly restrained on here, compared to other forums I've been on in the past (tbh I was really annoying and occasionally disruptive when I was younger, but I've calmed down now, lol), yet this is still the only forum which has ever threatened me with suspension. Says it all, really!

Hear! Hear! All my posts to the thread: "A typical quality of book translation from English to Polish?" have been removed. Wish I knew why.
