well anyway, this crap spells the end of me on the forums. feck all this download sh1t. if admin was moving the forum then why didnt he inform any of his mods? or even the forum users? He must have known that maybe there would be a problem...

The same download thing happened to me. I was using a computer at a friends house in Warsaw. Will I now have to send him a card, like the ones VD clinics used to use, informing him he may have a virus?

By the way there are no viruses in this whatsoever as convex says it is 'not' executable.

My computer has picked up circa. 3000 viruses at the moment and counting the resident shield has things in there that says "object is inaccessible"

You were just lucky.
The whole webserver change-over was completely mismanaged.
Letting hackers see the source code could potentially be big a security risk.

i don't see anything unusual. very little is ever deleted... most off topic is simply moved.

when Random Chat is cleared one or two other threads might go too.

some old 'missing threads' might have actually been moved to the Archive.

Don't know if that's what happened, looks like it. Anyway, it worked the entire time other than a quick 5 minute blip around midnight. It looks like some folks' DNS servers were still using old cached information. If you were to use opendns or google's DNS servers, guessing you wouldn't have a problem.

Most users will be using whatever DNS their ISP provides them with. It's a known fact that DNS changes can take up to 2 days to propagate around the world.

You think admin would tell you, even if us lowly users weren't informed!

TTL on the A record is 15 minutes. If an ISP decides to ignore the TTL, that's a complaint that should be brought up with them as it's completely out of the control of the domain owner. This day in age, there's no reason to ignore TTLs.


Won't speculate on that. Might have been done by the hosting company, like I said, who knows.

Anyway, it's done, took 5 minutes, all works now.

Most FOSS projects have a copyright notice, almost are released under license. There are some projects that hunt down companies that strip the copyright and GPL/BSD/CC license out and try to pass it off as their own. Lots of big boys are guilty of it :(

"Open Source" doesn't necessary meant "No Copyrights".
For instance - the original script of this forum is based on the open source, but it's free (free of charge) only if the copyright link and notes are not removed.

Notes from the original developers:

We may suppose that our admin has paid license fee and is entitled to remove any copyrights notes.
If he didn't paid, then he can be sued. But this is not our problem and it shall not concern us.

Downloaded file

This is a well known glitch in the Firefox browser. Sometimes it's just happen.
If the file has got an .php extension and you are not running any www server software on your computer - there is nothing to be afraid of.

Source code

On FF browser, the source code of any website can be viewed by pressing ctrl+u.
Nothing special about this.

it's not. you can't just see the source code of any website you want to. php code is processed before sending to the user's browser. (unless the server has gone wrong!)

Sorry my friend you are wrong as that source codes the page you are on, not the actual php of the forum, there are ways of doing it but it is a lengthy process and more to the point why would want to do that.
Mind you it could be quiet entertaining having a look at how many times espana has been called idiot by pm, but then again I come back to the point of why?

Guys - this thread was started by someone who accidentally downloaded an "unknown file" instead opening the page.

I agree - downloading the server-side php source code is impossible (well at least until the server security settings are in the state of complete FUBAR).

I suppose that what they downloaded is an index.php file. You can do the same.
Instructions for FF:
- right click on the Latest
- from the context menu choose Save link as...

The download manager will start, and you could download index.php file.

If you take a look at the code of this file, you will probably find out that it is identical to the effects of ctrl+u.
