You've changed the site formatting, why?

Hi Chaps

Someone seems to have made the page fixed width, rather than the much more usable size-to-browser window we had before. Bad at smaller screen resolutions (smaller than 1280 width, that is) and completely hopeless on iPhone or similar.

Does anyone actually test changes before putting them live?

Alex, you will in time, discover that Admin is an insomniac computer geek, when the pills wear off, Admin plays with the forum, he doesn't need to test anything, for he is the one and only true Admin and there shall be no other Admin except him.

May I suggest that the Admin looks into adding this to the forum Tapatalk as it makes mobile viewing much better; it has both iPhone and Android apps and is free to join for forums.
We have been using this on our forums for a long time and makes it so much better for smart phone usage.

So am I - hence the thing about testing before deployment which is to us propellerheads a matter of honour, if not routine :)

Credit where credit's due: it got sorted within about 15 mins of my first post.

And yes, the logical and easy thing to do would be to migrate to a real and up-to-date bulleting board like phpBB4, this one is utterly antique. Avatar and smileys problems solved in one hit.

No. Not phpBB. Please :(

(I gained access to many a phpBB board through some ridiculously simple exploits back in the day of being young and stupid...only ever downloaded database dumps though to read PM's :P)

Nothing has been changed; the page is in percentage width, not in a fixed width..

It was long time ago and it is gone for good, I mean, the chance to break in the modern phpBB is next to nil.

One thing however that I learned over my long fora experience is: Never ask for upgrading a given forum. The Admin does it happily on the living body (I have never met an Admin who would test the forum upgrade offline), then 50% of past posts are lost, people cannot log in, the site looks terribly bad and Admin gets so irritated with critics he starts issuing bans, beginning with the oldest and the most active members ;)

What a load of bull!

As I and other Admins that I know always test in a sandbox before a release of an upgrade or such like...
