hi girls and guys; this is my first time on a site like this, so please bear with me, it is rather entertaining to read the messages and I have been having quite a grin. i was in the usa for 11 years, where vodka was cheap, not like australia, so i'd like to find out how to make my own vodka at home?????? any hints?? also how to make kielbasa pickled sausage....the two go down very smoothly, the smell coming from you doesn't, but what the heck....we're only here once !

Well, you can but spiritus add 1/2 parts water, add some honey and a clove let it sit for a few months and you'll have your own honey vodka or you can soak it in with other fruit and make sth different.

Very recently I started to love Zoladkowka vodka. It's fabolous, good for stomach and so on.. by the way, how do you guys dring Zobrowke? with apple or cherry juice? thx

穎陰dkowa "bitter stomach" is awesome. Have you tried the other flavors? I like the original but I think theres mint and sth else. I dring Zubrowka shots. I don't really like it with apple but Zuberek is ok to add. its a sprt of apple flavor and cinnamon around the shot edge.

Excellent! 真br闚ka is my favorite, but there aren't too many types of Polish vodkas to chose from in US stores.

Luksusowa is usually easy to find.

I've noticed that the 真br闚ka sold in the US doesn't taste as good as it does in Poland and I found out why.

"真br闚ka in the United States

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/真br闚ka

Because bison grass contains the toxic compound coumarin, which is prohibited as a food additive by the Food and Drug Administration, imports of 真br闚ka into the United States have been banned since 1978. When produced according to traditional methods (between one and two kilograms of grass per thousand liters of alcohol), 真br闚ka contains approximately 12 milligrams of coumarin per liter. In 1999, Polish distilleries introduced reformulated US-export versions of the product, sometimes using artificial flavors and colors, always with the emblematic blade of grass in every bottle, but "neutralized" and coumarin-free."

There are many PL vodkas in the US...where I am anyway
Chopin, Belevedere, Wybrowka, Alchemy, Harnas, Jazz (comes in the shape of a trumpet), Sniper..lol looks like an AK , sobieski..more

Where in the US are you?

I don't know how true that is for the zubrowka..it's just a wiki. I'm not sure if neutralizing the grass would even take the flavor out. I'll tell you what. I have a bottle that I just brought back from PL and I'll go to the liquor store and buy one here to see if there's a difference. Keep in mind that there are a couple different bottles of zubrowka.

I'm around DC.

A friend shared some Chopin with us... (actually, nevermind - they brought that back from Poland). It was Very good! I've seen it in the US - not cheap, nice bottle, probably very good--as long as no changes were made.

The US imported 真br闚ka wasn't bad, but was expensive and really not the same (different brand of Bison Vodka too). We did find the same brand at a place in Baltimore, but haven't opened it yet.

It would be interesting to hear what you think of it.

Was in a green bottle? I've heard the same about that one. I get the same as they have in PL from a store in NJ.

Sounds good.

It was a green bottle (the one bought here).

I did a quick google image search and that one looked like this:

Bison Vodka

The other one bought here also, that looked like the ones from PL (almost a tan color), look like this:

Zubrowka Vodka

They tasted exactly the same I also had someone bring a bottle of the green one over. That one tastes the most different.

Very interesting. I checked the cabinet and haven't opened the 2nd one bought in the US. There's still some left from PL, so I'll wait until that gets lower and try the two together then. That Bison grass looks like useful stuff with a lot of good flavors--the wiki said it's even used in pipe tobacco.

I once (vaguely) remember drinking some black vodka. Tasted a bit of liquorice. Any clues to what that might be?

Rings a bell. It was fine stuff. Thought I'd bought some at the airport once but when I got it home it didn't taste too good. Maybe it was bad all along!

I'm sure you have plenty of liquor stores with PL vodka. Look for Wyborowa. Chopin is also good, but pricy.

What's the difference, FISZ, between this and the regular one, except the cool look?
My favourite is Luksusowa. Today I took all my alcoholic Christmas gifts back to the liquor store and since I didn't have any receipts I could only exchange for something else. The total credit was $92.50 (Canadian) so I grabbed three 1.14l bottles of Luksusowa. Beats all those wines and liqueurs people gave me for Christmas. LOL

It's made in smaller batches...kinda like a single barrel whisky, it's just better.

here's some info: polandforall.com/polish-wyborowa-vodka.html

Well, we just tried the US version and the Polish version (a few sips of each straight). There's a definite difference. If you had it with apple juice you probably wouldn't know the difference.

The Polish version has a better flavor and is much smoother. It's worth noting that the Polish version has medals on the label that the American imported version doesn't. According to that wiki (quoted in an earlier post) there something in the bison grass that isn't allowed in the U.S. so it's eliminated and they use some flavoring to try and make up for the difference. The U.S. version (Chicago mentioned on label) is also greener in color.

That's a big no no. I don't like it with apple. maybe just a little Zuberek, but that's all. Maybe your taste buds are better I couldn't tell the difference. Even if they did neutralize the grass..I think that the flavors from the grass would still remain. Who really knows....Coke and RC tastes the same to me
