concerning drinking spyrytus, i'm surprised to not to see the recipe that my babcia showed me. In a 1 gallon jar, fill it 3/4's full of puitted cherries. fill the jar with about 40 ounces of spyrytus and leave it alone (out of the sun)on your countertop for about a month. After a month, pour off the cherry flavoured spyrytus. Chill if you want but it goes down sooooo fine and smoooothe. The cherries, although not the greatest tasting, can be eaten or blended with ice cream. Makes a very nice smoothie as well if you can't have ice cream or yogurt. Hope this helps you guys who hate the taste and effects od spyrytus. In Canada it's not available but a 96% alchool is. Not as clean as spyrytus but still not bad in a pinch.
But these need to be Wisznia, a sour cherry (Wisznowka). Normal cherries don't taste as good made this way. Also can be made with raspberries (Malinowka). After you let sit for 3-4 weeks, you have to pour out the liquid (using cheese cloth) and add 5-6 cups of sugar to the fruit. Let sit for another 3 weeks in warmth/sun and again drain out liquid and add sweet syrup to 1st batch of liquid removed. Let sit until it settles and then remove cleared liquid off of the top.
