feedback wanted on teaching job offer

can anyone please give me some feedback on this job offer: Teach english 30 hours max. per week; 5500PLN per month (after deductions) + rent free, furnished apartment in Warszawa. This sounds quite good to me, but I could be wrong....??

Take it and run. Great offer IMO.

Make sure there is no red light outside your furnished apartment, understanding english may be a side issue

it's just sounds a liitle high earning for an ESL, unles it's a university job. Privaate schools usually don't pay that much, especially after deductions.Plus it offers all the perks.
However, talk to them and ask a lot of questions and you might be able to find more

oh, I think I get it now.....I'm a bit slow sometimes......you mean knowing the English language may be irrelevant if the "red light" is on!!!!!!!!!!

the job is with British Language School in Warszawa...does that compute better??

5500 a month? Thats incredible. You are indeed a very lucky man. Dont waste your time sitting talking with us TAKE IT. I get paid about 2000 a month and i consider that to be a good wage for the work I do. GO!!!

Why not? I earn maybe not this much but, if one is a specialist in narrow field of business this is possible.

Maybe so but the advert doesnt ask for a specialist Just an English teacher. Not many schools offer free accomodation. Congratulations though sama Well done

Oh, you are all so excited about this - it must be a GREAT offer!! I actually was only asking for feedback before I considered applying - I haven't been offered the job yet.....but here is the add - the position closes 15 MARCH - not much time left.....it's not realistic for me to apply at the moment b/c I'm in Australia and I don't think they'll pay the $2,000+ airfare to get me to the interview, but maybe I should apply anyway

Hmmm - something has just occured to me. It writes: "30 teaching hours" - as far as I remember one teaching hour (at least in primary/highschool) was 45 minutes, not 60 minutes.

IF that's the case, the deal is really sweet.

You would earn more if you were smarter and if your mind wasn't so narrow.

The answer is that the British School in Warsaw like most International Schools in the world ( American schools are even more expensive) charge a real fortune to parents.
The pupils are generally expats'children and the tuition is paid by companies who have transferred the expats abroad.( the tuition is a minimum of 20000£ per year!)
Of course they also want the best teachers and they will treat them very decently!

So it would be a great business model to open a language school in Poland for expats

Surely if they had transfered to Poland the children would require Polish lessons not English?

that's a lot of money, 5500 cash in hand, no living expences...i say go for it

ok how much money will he make teaching back in the UK ?at any normal school i mean not english language to out side students , i mean local pupils, then compare it ,this guy will have to teach from Hamlet to Francis Bacon more then the book is on the table kind of lessons

it's a bi-lingual school, so they also learn polish (I guess)

I can answer based on Australian teacher salaries (probably comparable). Firstly, 5500PLN is roughly $AUD11,000 per month = approx $AUD122,000 per year (after tax!!) this is an EXTRAORDINARY salary for any teacher - even school Principals wouldn't earn that after tax......so, these British Schools teachers are earning VERY BIG BUCKS (it seems)......

You are poor in your maths muzyka... 5500pln = $2400A dollars or 29000zl a year..not much to write home about.

I don't think so, Hullo - the aussie dollar is worth 2.5 times zloty - at least that's what it was not long ago, so based on that I am actually underestimating the conversion.....

Yes. So you have 5500/2.5 = 2200

that can't be right......if AUD is double the zloty - you would multiply by 2

e.g. 5 zloty x 2 - 10 AUD

what you're doing is halving the dollar against the zlot......or am I gong crazy????

Look, AUD is (over) twice stronger, so you need twice as much PLN to get the same number in AUD.
