I just got the news that I am going to Poland for one year. In Poznań, I believe. I am so happy! I have been waiting for so long to do this! I am a young girl who dosen't know the language that well, but I will brush up before I leave. Does anyone have any advice or any useful information that I should know? thanks so much!

I am a member of a motorcycle club based in Poznan....these people are my brothers , true friends i know i can count on if i need them....if you get stuck , i will send the boys round...i found it very hard in Poland untill i made some good friends...You have to be carefull of those who pretend to be friends for the wrong reasons , i met a few , but most Poles are good hearted people....

Well than, International Theatre Festival in Malta Poznań is the place to be. I will be present at The Police gig on 26 June, but Elvis Costello will play in Poznan at 28 June, so what do you say? Or mabe you are also thinking to see The Police? Or Sex Pistols in July?

kotik:

Both sound amazingly. But I guess because of all the slavic factor I would probably learn Russian easier than french. :)

yes, much easier. the hardest part would be learning the Cyrillic alphabet. polish and russian are very much alike from what I understand.

The Malta festival will be from 23-28 June. As for Polish folk music, since the communists tried to use it for their purposes it's been generally in decline. Still, last year I've been to the Ethnosfera festival in Skierniewice and it was loads of fun. I will check for you whether it will take place again this year.

PS: Being English and not liking the pistols. tsk tsk... :)

Dear God, I forgot the Cyrilic alphabet. That will be quite a challange for moi. :)

Are the Sex Pistols reforming? With Johnny Rotton?

I am stoked!!

Ohh dear, I caused quite a confusion here I must say.

The Police will play on the 26 of June in Chorzów (unfortunately it is not free) while Sex Pistols are on the Opener Festival in Gdynia ( I think with Johnny).

As for Poznań, I know that Nelly Furtado will play there on 11 of July. I guess this information won't be of any help for kotik and Kaylyn though. :(

Anyone have any opinion on the Stare Miasto Hotel?

Also - if I am only in town for one day/night what are the must places to check out and best places to eat.
