Europe has started to think ...

The European Union has broken through in efforts to lessen its dependence on Russian natural gas with a concrete offer of extra supplies from Turkmenistan.

it is step in good direction.

"Mr Berdymukhammedov has promised increased supplies to Russia, the biggest buyer of Turkmen gas, through a proposed pipeline, and to China via a long trans-Asian route planned for completion next year."

When does EU get its pipeline ? Oh, so Russia will be buying 50bn cu before EU even lay one meter of pipe - Mmmmmm......you don't think Russia would try to use their muscle to try and scupper ......no...surely not...

Poland presently imports 95% of its energy from Russia or former federation countries.

I would focus more on the proposed pipeline from Stavanger to Gdansk.

If only Scotland was independant we could build a pipeline from Aberdeen to Szczecin !

that would suit me well. The gas prices are suppose to go 15% this year in Poland.

Could be worse - the monopoly, PGNiG wanted them to go up by 33% !

it is already too expensive for some people in Poland. Some people, especially the retired one cannot handle the existing bills.

The price of Gas is closely related to the price of Oil. The problem for Poland is that it has a poorly developed supply system and lack of internal competition.
The bad news is, it could get worse !

of gas ...

60% of our energy comes form coal and we have deposits for next 230 years. Yes it needs investemnts in more enviroment friendly technologies and big investments in expoatation of new depostis ...

we have some uranium deposits so our situation isn't so bad.

Yes it is not the same as pure gas or oil ... all in all, we have someting and in worst situation we are able to deal with problems.

What is important we need more investemnts in this sector.

As to some ideas of EU countries it is very important for us to have EU parnters not so strongly dependent form Russia. So we consider all iniciatives like this as step in good direction.

My mistake - your figures are correct.

That is the problem with PGNiG - lack of competiton.

Tidal power could be a limited but feasable option.

I am not so sure if PGNiG or our other companies form Energetic sector need competition. The lowest prices of gas or oil are in Russia so their competitors could simple dominate market by short term strategy of buing russian gas.

and we have some nice projects.

ss

Odessa - Brody - Gdańsk pipeline will give us connection to Turkish, Iraqi and Iranian ... gas or oil ... it is still project and it is sure that oil/gas will be at the begining more expenisve ... idependence has price ;) It is project strongly promoted by Kaczysnki and Ukrianian politicians ... our both countries need it. And competition on Polish market could be good in short term but can cost to much in long term.

that is why we so strongly support our allies like Ukraine and Gerogia ... all sides have interests in this cooperation.

Unstable political climate could be a risk - much safer with the Norway pipeline, although Norway may not be able to supply Gas as cheaply.

It is risky but when we look on other EU projects in this region ...

nabucco
(this project is mentioned in article I have posted)

it is worth risk we would have great connections to middle east resources and possible to Nabucco pipeline (it would be more safe).

Norwegian gas in stable and expensive.... alternative, for me it seems ok but again economy big business ... we will see.

We are building gasport on baltic coast and eventualy we are going to have access to gas by this way...
