i think it going to have quite a dramatic effect on our economy. For instance, health and safety reasons people cannot go to work because there is not running water and therefore no sanitary provision... food deliveries are going to be limited so i can see supermarkets running out of stock.... i guess this could be said for any industry relying on tranportation

It will certainly increase the premiums for home insurance. I told them not to build on the flood plains but would they listen?

Just heard on my local radio this morning that water bills are going to rise because of the floods.

If people want to donate, the red cross are taking donations

ok... people are having to put on their wellies but its not as if we are a third world country or are having floods anywhere near as catastrophic as some other parts of the world are at this very momnet...

... lets put things into perspective...

What about Ireland, Scotland and Whales....Canada perhaps ;)? Are they assisting like they should be?Why should it be the US's responsibility when we have our own issues to handle. Besides, we can't even assist our own people in the time of need.

As B woo said.... they aren't a third world country.

Who knows why we're still in Iraq.... :/ I think we're planning a world domination ;)

thats sorta true but dont u think thats sorta weird? i think if they werent so much involved in iraq than they would be able to help.... but still im not saying that england is a third world country because its one of the best countries. canada should be helping out (im 100% behind this)

Quoting: BubbaWoo
all you americans should be digging deep in them pockets and sending your $$$ to the needy of the north... this is what you do... nows your chance...

so my question is why isnt the US trying to have a better reputation by helping out? but thats a lil bit off topic... still everyone should help.
hahah world domination :) i gotta love the people in this forum :)

We look after our own

The only down side is which has already been stated, insurance will rise which is a bumer but thats life....What got me is when they were telling us on the news how much it would cost they bloody well said it in dollars and not pounds...how rude!

I've got divided views on this. We are a wealthy country, that's true. Not everyone will be insured and there is bound to be some severe hardship for quite a few people. However, the UK Government and people are always the first to dig down deep into their pockets for any other disasters across the World.

Didn't we donate considerable money to the San Francisco disaster too ?

US is wealthier than the UK as well !

Thing is Daisy posted details of the Red Cross......any money donated,if not used in the UK will go to help other countries as well.

I see both sides........

The Red Cross don't get paid, they are doing a lot of hard work helping people voluntarily

I know Daisy. I agreed with your earlier posting. I think the Red Cross are brilliant as are all the thousands of volunteers who workk for all the aid agencies :) And I think people should contribute to the Red Cross.

If I didn't make that clear then I'm sorry. I'm just extremely tired tonight,.

Are you cross with me ?

I will bet money that the US government contrinbutes in one way or another.

I hear that there's looting going on. Are these people looting for food or crime? Is it that bad? Like Katrina/ new orleans scale?

According to the police that has been exagerated, but people were looting from the abandoned houses that had been flooded, loading up vans with furniture. Personally I think they should be publicly flogged

Oh that's ok then :)

...you know it's even hard for me to understand what has been happening in other parts ot the country. I'm in the North West and the effect has been minimal where I am, so it must be hard for people in other countries to understand the devestation the flooding has caused in some areas of the UK.

A what? Can you drive them in the uk?

I hope that nobody here is has been directly affected. Flooding no matter how big or small can be devastating.

Not at all, the average house has more than one telly.

two tv licences

I grudge buying one ! When you consider the mire the BBC is in - dodgy phone comps, Paxman making up statistics etc etc

we had some minor worries for a short while,,,,,,,,but none now and we've enjoyed some lovely weather over the last couple of days. I understand though that there may be further flooding down South over the weekend ?

Thanks for that Zguby.

it is absolutely tipping it down right now. I popped out of the office Thursday lunchtime to go to the shops next door, the rain was so heavy I was literally soaked to the skin, my shoes were squelching. I had to sit at my desk dripping wet, i think it's why I've got a cold now.

yes, I look at it all the time but it doesn't have the same impact as seeing it on a screen.
