Fly to Poland

Hello,
Is it better to fly to Poland from US directly by LOT airlines (non-stop) or I should rather go to Germany or England first and then to Poland? I've heard different opinions. I think the price would be about the same... Thanks man.

It depends what you like. I used to fly both LOT and Sas/Lufthansa/British Airlines. With LOT I like the fact you go directly to Poland (Krakow or Warsaw) while the other airlines require you to have one or two stops. However, the other airlines seem to be more comfortable and have more features on the planes for the same price. So if I want just have to go to Poland, I take Lot, but if I'm on vacation, for example, I take the other airlines (then I have a chance to visit another European country too).

Take Lot -- even though they don't serve alcohol for free anymore..

Yeah, each time i fly to Poland i was getting drunk in the aircraft but now i had to pay so i bring my own bottle

Just booked Wizz air from Liverpool to Katowice in October £1.00 return flight £0.01.
plus Taxes and supliments. Didnt add up to £145.00 for the three of us. Is that a good deal or what?........

BUT...should we stay in Katowice for the rest of the day and night, or go on to Krakow that afternoon?

Someone here said Katowice is not the nices place to be so if you can you can go to Krakow rightaway .

Depends where you start. From Chi-town or NY, take LOT. From Just about anywhere else I think BA to London then Warsaw is cheapest. There's sometimes a 24hr holdover required there it's worth it if you can afford it-life is an adventure. Enjoy the trip. I took a trip to Poland from Tampa, FL and back May2006. The trip was great and I'm going again in 2007 or 2008. I took my son to aquaint him with his Polish heritage. I'll be taking my other son in 2007 or 2008.

Lufthansa is also good to fly. Just used them and was extremely satisfied.

What is Polish LOT so fussy about? It's just a normal practice in the Western world to compare two competing products (you can see lots of them in the US or UK). A little more competition and LOT loses temper.

Well, they just don`t like to be ****** with. Ryan Air has crossed the line with using LOTs name without its permission, calling them crooks, and launching this campaign in which LOTs employees should betray their employer. I hope that Rayan Air will have to pay such compensation that it`s going to think twice before doing that again.

I had a "pleasure" to fly a couple of years ago. I was flying from NY to Warsaw. There was no major problem. But then in Warsaw I wanted to buy a ticked to Wroclaw. I knew there were many free sits (that's what the receptionist said). However, the price she provided (about 900 Zl per person) just for the flight from Warsaw to Wroclaw was ridiculous. I told her I could pay 500zl per person, but not 900zl. She (I mean - the LOT people - I also talked to their manager) was not flexible at all - and the plane took off half empty. I ended up buying a train ticket (first class) - but of course there were not enough sitting places in the first class so I was standing for 5 hours with a nice first-class ticket in my hand. It wasn't a nice experience for me as I thought when I buy a first-class ticket I would get a place to sit. The "conductor" didn't care - he said sit in the corridor until someone leaves (I noticed he was sitting alone reading a newspaper in the whole compartment).

So in other words it would be better if you`d have bought the ticket for 900 PLN. Ofcourse they didn`t made any difference for you - they have stable prices that are non-negotionable to all customers and personally I wouldn`t even come to an idea to attempt to negotiate the price of an airline ticket (a bus ticket ..or a train ticket).

Maybe I would, but the same ticked (if I wanted to buy it online when I was buying the tickets) costed 700 zl (that seemed expensive for me so 900zl was out of the range). Any commens on the "first-class" train ticket? It seems it's no use to buy one (and pay 70% more than the regular one) since you aren't guaranteed a place to sit.

I think it`s always that if you`re buying a ticket online its cheaper. There was even a time when some of those cheaper airlines like Air Polonia, Sky Europe ect. were offering tickets for 1PLN - but they were only available online.

To the problems you`d had traveling first class - I don`t know when have you been here - but I haven`t heared about such problems. Such situations exist only in the second class - unless of course it can happen if the whole first class in a train is being reserved in being reserved - but the odds of this are mayby something like 1 to 1000.

Btw. I`ve just checked it - the flight from Warsaw to Wroclaw is costing around 200 PLN, so when have you been here ?

The first time I went to Poland I flew on Austrian airline. It was a wonderful experience!
The second time I took Lufthansa. I had to buy an expensive ticket becuase almost everything was sold out and for that amount of money the features on the plane sucked but nice flight crew, and Frankfurt aiport was gorgous!
THen I went on BA and the plane is cool so is flight crew but heathrow was awful.
Now Im going on SAS. I never flew with them so I dont know how its going to be.
BAsically if you love to fly I think its better to fly with a connection. The ticket is cheaper too. LOT is way overpriced these days. Or maybe its just Florida. Everything here is so expensive.

SAS is good. You'll like it. I really like their meals which consists of pink salmon and marinated salad. Delicious.
I compared prices for LOT from Ohare to Warsaw and they were actually cheaper than connection flights. It all depends what day of the week you travel and how far in advance you purchase the ticket.
And yes, It is more expensive to fly from Florida. Just because they have Disney World doesn't give them the excuse to charge more.

I like SAS too - they have "personal TV" on the back of each chair, free alcohol, nice stewardesses. Lot is sort of "economic" in the full meaning of this (good food though).

Ya, forgot about those cool personal TV's. British Airways has them too. But I don't think Heathrow is that bad. I like their round sit-and-wait-area surrounded by their too-expensive shops. I like all European Airports. Everything is so close and easy to find compare to O'HARE............

I like them too -- but the funny (and rather very surprising thing for me) are the so called "dedicated spots for smokers." In the US when there's a place to smoke, others cannot basically smell the smoke while on European airports they just draw a line in the hall and write: "this is smokers area". All passengers have to breathe in the smoke with the smokers as they have to go thru the hall .

I remember ages ago when you bought a ticket they would ask: smoking or non-smoking. But look at them now. Sometimes I wonder how these heavy smokers can make it across the Atlantic for 8 or 9 hours without getting their fix?
Maybe that's why so few Poles go to Australia?

not for long mate... some like Barcelona are totally non-smoking and most will be following suit very shortly... the UK is starting a no smoking in all public places ban on 1st July.. dont agree with it personally, but there you go.. Big Brother is upon us.
