Here is my Lithunian grandmother's recipe. She also called it Vitatass. It wasn't until after her death that my mother told me it was also called Krupnik.

lucky for us my mother included it in a family cook book in 1972. Hope you like it.

i think i may be able to help, i am in the process of producing it for sale. i have already patent the recipe and as soon as i finish the legalities i will be selling it. it is in fact called virytas, which is just the lithuanian word meaning "cooked". i learned how to make it from my grandmother and to be honest is harder than you think to make it. another name for it is Krupnikas. email me if you have any questions about it. robshady322@gmail

I was searching for the correct spelling of that wonderful wiskey coctail. My parents have been making it for years and got the recipe from a dear lithuanian friend that past away. I made it for the first time. My parents spelled it VIDDY TOSS. So now I will spell it : VITYTUS or VITATUS. Thank you all. We just called it Viti. I make mine with honey, ginger, cinamon, caraway seeds and use a perculator. My Dad is 84 and is healthy as a horse, he has been drinking it for 30 years. Thats why I am making it. It is very good for you in moderation. Enjoy.

Maybe Sobieski can help my memory out here if anyone.
Going back about forty years ago we bought it in a dark brown crock jug with a
little handle on it that held about a pint.
Most likely packaged like that for a novelty gift.
I forget what they called it now but a very sweet honey wine.
I would buy my Matka a jug every Christmas.

I make a Lithuanian liquor tough to me by a great lady. She would make 20 - 30 1/2 gals.every spring and it was used as a toast on Easter Sunday brunch she would have 100 to 150 guest stop after church.and celebrate the Easter holiday with the family huge tables were set up in the house often a waiting line stood waiting for a seat to empty. All the food was home made everything from farmers cheese to hard boiled eggs home made breads ham and saugages from a pig raised for the day. As every time someone new to a table was seated shot glasses were filled and a family member would make a toast to the new comers and everyone at the table would ha a shot welcoming the new people to join the breakfast. That's the history of my friendship with a great family and a traditionthat I have seen go without stop for forty years. Now what you are waiting for. The recipe.

1 cup water boiling add 3 good size cinnamon sticks if you only have small ones use two small to equal 1 large. Now add 3 tablespoons of caraway seeds. Simmer for 5 minutes Now add 1 cup good honey mix and bring back to a simmer 5 more minutes. Now take the pan off the stove away from the hot burner.this is important because now you add 4 cups whiskey. My good friend uses 90 proof

I prefer to use a middle shelf burbank it's a little smoother scene its the only alaholic drinks I drink. Back to the recipe after adding the 4 cups of whisky mix add put back on the heat watching carefully only to you see a vapor start to rise from the liquid.

NOW THE HARD PART IT HAS TO SIT FOR 7 TO 10 DAYS COVERED DO NOT USE ALLUMNIAN PANS WHEN READY STRAIN THROUGH 4 LAYERS OF CHEESE CLOTH DISCARD THE CINNAMON AND CARAWAY SEEDS LET SIT OVER NIGHT ANC CAREFULLY POUR OFF THE CLEAR FROM THE TOP WHEN YOU SEE SEDIMENT POUR THIS INTO EXTRA BOTTLES AS THEY SIT FOR A DAY YOU CAN POUR OFF THE CLEAR FROM THE TOP. AFTER A WHILE ALL THE SEDIMENT BOTTLES CAN BE COMBINED ONCE YOU HAVE ALL THE CLEAR BOTTLED I SAVE A BOTTLE OF SEDIMENT AND PUT A LITTLE IN MY COFFEE OR TEA. ENJOY. WE REFER TO THIS WONDERFUL DRINK AS " V "
