have you ever eaten czernina soup? ;)

Schab would be one of my favorites.

Bigos also. I've learned to make a really good bigos :)

Can anyone tell me exactly what cut of meat the Schab is made from? I see nothing that looks like it in the butchers shops here. What might be the English term for this cut of meat?

I voted for Pierogi.

I also love Polish smoked sausage and fresh sausage too.
I also love stuffed cabbages.
I love saurkrauts too.

Did I missed anything else?

I love placki but I can't live without mielonego or schabowego. It's just too much to choose from. I always make sure to try zapiekanka or tost when I go back. Can't go wrong with gofry, kukurydza or flondra when you visit Baltic Sea

I'm surprised that barszcz only got 3 votes. It's a great soup especially with Polish rye bread.

Silesian żurek or....? I tried it near Warsaw and it isn't nearly as good as here. They have it with egg here and the texture is a little bit different.

I had some shockingly good zurek outside of Kielce at a friends place. He had just brought his pig to the butcher, so we had fresh sausage and eggs fresh from the coop. It was amazing. There were some diced potatoes in there, pieces of bacon, something green, bread on the side. Speaking of which, it's about time to head to Kielce again...

I didn't like it in the US where it's called borsh (not sure about the spelling) and I don't like it here because I just don't like beets. I love golambki (cabbage rolls), bigos, golonka (either baked or boiled, but boiled is much more common). It's always tranlated as pork knuckle, but it's really a joint from a leg. I recently ate some incredibly good Kashubiam pierogi and that's moved up a lot higher on my list. I didn't mention any seafood because I don't think of it as a Polish dish. Carp's not seafood (it's a freshwater fish) and it's just crap spelled another way. Disgusting.

bigos, flaki, pierogi and definitely all kielbasas although i really like kabanosy maybe the most.

Allison, have you actually had a real polish kielbasa? not the crap that's sold at regular stores wrapped in plastic?

btw. isn't there another thread with this same subject already?

I think there's already been about a billion similar threads. But for the record, I'd have to go for kapusta.

No, I haven't eaten the fake ones. I'm sure they're bad for you and full of fat. Wouldn't be a good thing for me though lol I don't need fattening American food and fattening Polish food. We Americans eat some bad stuff lol, no room for junky international food.

LENIWCE!

Im a pierogi person, and love 'pierogi ruskie', but pierogi leniwe (cottage/farmers cheese kind of based) are all time favourite

Sweet or sour
sweet - topping with buttery and sweetened breadcrumbs
sour - with sour cream and sugar

and potatoes pancakes - love them too

pretty good recipe for leniwe

My favorite dish is the kind I don't have to cook and I don't have to do the dishes afterward.
