They used to sell it in Kuchnie Świata but not anymore...
MS has it but it costs 21 PLN for a tin, which is a bit steep. Any other places?

Pip, where do you buy sliced corned beef?
And yes I meant the kind packed in a spam-like tin - produced in Brazil

If you manage to get a tin of corned beef (my favourite food), be extra, extra vigilant. Polish red ants absolutely love corned beef and they will do anything to invade your house in search of it. If you open a tin eat it straight away.

When I was in Poland in 1994, I once had the misfortune of biting into a corned beef butty (sandwich) which I had prepared earlier that day and feeling the little red ants tickling me and dribbling down my chin.

Now that I'm safely back in England, I can't get enough of the stuff. Do a corned beef toastie with fresh mustard....better than anything else you will ever taste.

The red ant story I regard as funny and not real. Ants (whatever colour) attack any kind of meat given half the chance.
Pip, corned beef is a respected kind of meat in Belgium and many countries since ages. Frankly speaking I have never heard of the sliced - over the counter kind.

I'm wondering if the the corned beef hash type is available, mixed with potato bits. Kind of on the salty side though.

The story is absolutely true. It happened to me in 1994 when I had a dingy flat whilst working in Warsaw. The fact that ants will attack any meat wasn't of much interest to me, as I only brought corned beef back from England. At that time impossible to get in Poland.

In the good old days, you could buy 'a quarter of corned beef' (quarter of a pound in weight) in slices from the butcher.

Best place to buy beef in Warsaw

Does anyone know where the best shops or stores in Warsaw are for buying beef steaks? So far I've been buying from Carrefour but the trouble is the steak is very tough and not ideal for quick pan cooking the way I prefer. I don't mind traveling about the city a bit to find a store that sells decent rib-eye for example. It doesn't need to be hyper high quality, grass-fed etc.

Thank you for any advice!

Try the butcher in Hala Koszyki - next to the bar called Cma.

Or steakclub.pl

Lidl hav some pretty good steak sometimes when they have a "luxury" promotion

A nightmare isn't it, your best bet is to buy a whole vac packed fillet (99zl kilo) from Tesco and cut it into steaks, pack individual then freeze until required, keep the chateaubriand piece and roast it, brilliant.

Not seen any rib-eye to talk of here, but Kaufland sometimes have some interesting beef cuts .

On the whole (Apart from tesco and lidl) they don't really have a clue about ageing beef, but its getting better.
