the brand name's Hatherwood - all of the stuff are the same brand - guess it's a Lidl own brand btw isn't mint sauce essential to lamb English style? it's also on offer

well there are more ready-made meals except steak pie on their offer some chicken beef and even turkey meals ('roast turkey dinner') and also Malt Vinegar !!!! I'm gonna buy a bottle (or two) for myself - it's brilliant with lettuce (with cream - the Polish style (also the cream used is Polish style i.e sour))

That's easy ... taste lol

By the way I am talking about the yellow hard cheese as compared to cheddar or similar UK cheeses.

They are starting to get better but no way are they up to the standards of yellow cheeses from western countries.

I have lived here 12 years now and it is only the last couple of years that they have started to take more care over the production, instead of making it and chucking it out on the market... now they are letting it mature a bit longer - but still have to be very lucky to find it.

The best part abot the Lidl leaflet is the first 2 pages are basicly fish and chips or other forms of fish products!

Which is all we eat in Britian (or not) maybe they could have done battered Mars bars or something!

Whats the joke about?? If you wanna eat cheaply in any country the food is ****. In Poland, if u want to you can live off pizza and Kebab. Tell me what is so **** about English food? Everytime I ask this to Poles who make fun of Eng food they cannot answer, they just say that theyve heard about it.

Bear in ming that Delia Smith, Nigella Lawson, Gary Rhodes, Rick Stein, Grdon Ramsey etc all come from the UK and are world famous.

Poland has that wannabe Polae form france and that fat guy who cooks on the streets of the world. Hardly world famous.

I am not really familiar with English cuisine - just once did I eat in a hospital cantine where I worked on a demolition job (no - we didn't knock down the whole place ;) - and the stuff I had was very good though it was nothing like anything Polish I know of (in a sense I don't know of any similar things in traditional Polish cuisine) - the thing is in my opinion that English cuisine is sadly hardly present in English streets (except for full English breakfast in the pubs) - McDonalds is hardly English cuisine

Scampi is Norwegian if anything, not British, though we adopted it. Baked beans are more American. Heinz is from Philly, I think. Thanks for the list, ukpolska. I might get myself over to the LIDL here. It's a fair hike but worth it.

ShawnH, if you go to the Carrefore in Arkadia they usually stock Wyke Farms Cheddar which is the real deal and is a brand I often was pleased to see in the UK - GOBSMACKED to see it here. Kuchnia Swiat often have it too.

As to anything else ... I can't bring myself to want to go to Lidl (though some of their GERMAN stuff can be very good).

OK OK I can see a reason now maybe, Millionaire Shortbread (the caramel cakes) and MAYBE the roast spuds cos they are very handy for making bubble and squeak (which is basically potatoes, cabbage and onion fried until they form a "cake" in the pan - MUCH nicer than it sounds).

What's wrong with LIDL? They have some good wine, notably from NZ. Now they'll have scampi for a while, you can't turn your nose up at that.
