To find veal scalops in Kraków ?

Hi,

I love to cook veal scalops from time to time. I usually do them according to some Italian recipe (alla valdostana, piccata lombarda...). But I have a problem to find veal scalops in Kraków. First of all, I must find veal :-). So far I only got it at Alma in Galeria Kazimierz. But they are not equipped to cut large thin slices, so the dish loses some refinement.

Could you recommend a good butcher ?

Good luck with that! There should be a place as even here in Gliwice you can buy good veal. Tasty stuff, you have given me an appetite now.

My butcher at the Nowy Kleparz has veal every day. They won't cut it thin for you but you get the thinness by bashing it with a mallet anyway.

Well, thanks for the info. I like to shop in an old market from time to time. I love Nowy Kleparz, especially in the summer, so I'll give a try to your butcher. By the way, you're the person who posted about lamb some time ago. Does your butcher still provide lamb as well ? I love lamb chops from time to time and prepare them in a pan with rosemary.

you say that shopping in a market is your thing---how about the Jewish Quarter of Kraków .I think it's called Kazimierz.When we vacationed there,fresh meat and produce was in abundance and fresh.Worth while to check it out.

polkamaniac Are you talking specifically about the market on a small square with a round building in the middle of it ? (forgot its name) Yeah, I know the place. I bought broad beans there once. Very expensive in Poland though :-(

Sounds like Plac Nowy - yes, it is expensive and the selection is pretty poor compared to places like the Stary Kleparz or even Hala Targowa.

Yes, that was me! He doesn't have any fresh lamb but he will have frozen.
