Orange Roughy in Krakow?

Has anyone come across frozen orange roughy in any stores in Krakow? It's a very popular fish in America, but perhaps it isn't in Europe...

Apparently is is also known as deep-sea perch. The Polish name is gardłosz atlantycki. Please tell me - is it popular in Europe?

Well to be honest with you , Krakow is not the place for Fish,it is too far from the Ocean.
When you are asking" is it popular in Europe"? Europe is Big And Diverse! Germany is Germany Spain is Spain Norway is Nrway Poland is Poland and we are all different and don't know what everybody eats or like.
Poland does not have a huge choice in terms of fish from my experience , the Baltic sea is very polluted and too cold to have a wide variety of fish species.

Fishmongers are scarce, there is a kiosk on Starolwilsna looking like a stara babcia place , it has a few herrings and salmon ,"the sausage of the sea".
The biggest choice for fresh fish i found is at Alma Supermarket , i can buy Salmon( but no doubt it is not Wild Salmon like in Alaska!) Sole sometimes, maquerel, and herring .+ carp and trouts but no halibut, no snapper and no sea food!

Orange Roughy can live to be 149 years old. Your next fillet may have been swimming the seas since before the Franco-Prussian War.

Try Auchan hypermarket in Bonarka Mall/Gallery. A few months ago we saw there very exotic raw fish on ice. The prices were exotic too. :):):):)

The Baltic is not polluted compared to the Atlantic or Pacific. If you can find Baltic salmon in Krakow- buy it. It is much better than the farmed garbage that comes from Norway.

If the orange roughy lives to be 149 years old- stay away from it. It will have 149 years worth of pollutants in it. You can google for yourself which fish are the best to eat but generally the older the fish- the more chemicals it has in its body.

One of my favourite fish is Kargulena (I've seen it called ice fish on fishy websites). When it's small it has a sweet, light flavour, but if you get a large one, it has a nasty metallic taste. Scary.

Baltic is very poluted - vast areas of the Baltic bottom are a so called 'sea bottom desert' (anoxic conditions) - it became so mostly in the 70's - think detergents - so many poluted rivers flow into Baltic - Odra, Wisła, Neman, Dvina, Neva (the Petersburg agglomeration) - also herbicides and pesticides and artificial fertilizer run-offs from the fields contribute very much to the contamination of rivers and consequently the Baltic

On Wikipedia they tell us the most common fish in the Baltic Sea and the problem of the alga /bacteria coming from agricutural waste ( under the Biology section of the article)

Apparently there is Turbot in the Baltic Sea which is a delicious fish ( never had it in Poland), BLS if you have a crave for Orange Roughy i advise you wait until you go back to the US on holiday to have it .
The choice of Frozen Fish is also somewhat limited in LIDL supermarket you can buy plaice, cod, salmon but no orange roughy.
