PIZZA & KETCHUP?

Does any country other than Poland serve a tomato-catsup-like sauce on the side with their pizzas? In Polish pizzerias that is common, but I have not run into an pizza places in Michigan that do so. The tomato sauce is baked into the pizza, not poured over the baked pizza.

I think it is the only country in the world which does this :)

I have often noticed that too.

In traditional italian pizzas they use a tomato based sauce in their pizzas...and it is made from peeled tomatoes, basil, olive oil and salt...and i prefer that to the ketchup like stuff most pizzerias use here.

The only people that I have seen putting tomato ketchup on a pizza in the UK are Polish people ;) It does seem strange because like you said, tomato puree is baked into the pizza already. Every man to his own personal taste though, as I have just discovered lately that, Worcestershire sauce is a great condiment to add an extra bit of spice to a pizza.

No wonder why my kids eat pizza with ketchup!!!....I know now,isn't a mystery now :)

But ketchup is different than this 'tomato puree' which they put on the bottom of a pizza :).

One has loads of chemicals and aditives the other doesn't so you havent got a clue what you are talking about.

actually, they are COMPLETELY different ;). And i, for one, cant understand people who put mayonnaise on their pizza.

I haven't said both are the same,both are tomato based and it's all down where you get your ketchup with less additives.

ok so now I understand fully the meaning of why my uncle told me that
Im not polish if I dont like ketchup. lol.

Ketchup rocks, but not on pizza.. thats taking it way to far,

ranch is better for dipping sauce.. lol

Yes. I think it's safe to say that any pizzeria has a bottle of ketchup on the table.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza
Ketchup and Mustard base, covered in Hamburger, Monterey Jack, Cheddar and mozzarella Cheese, topped with Bacon $13.30/$16.55

If someone has a taste for this I'm sure the owner of Tony's Pizza in Cheektowaga, NY (suburb of Buffalo) will be thrilled.
I've been to the place a few times but never tried pizza with ketchup/

Hungarians are also know to serve ketchup with pizza.

I can tell you why Poles use ketchup for everything when they are abroad. I hardly ever use ketchup when in Poland, but in countries like UK or USA it's a must. The food there tastes awful or has no taste at all... ketchup kills that taste ( or adds some )...

They do that in some pizzeries, but from what I heards from my friends nobody really likes it. People generally find those pizzerias too lazy to come up with their own recipe. Best pizzerias have their own sauces.

On the other hand most Poles put Ketchup on many other things like toasts or rice...

Poles in Chicago use ketchup and they also put corn on pizza?

I preffer the traditional Italian style, NO corn or ketchup please.

There is a big difference between Ketchup and Pizza Sauce.

Good pizza sauce is a lot more spicy and usually has a different texture. When I was in Poland I saw regular ketchup and pizza ketchup. I noticed that the pizza ketchup was spicier.

I know someone that puts peanut butter on the crust. (American)

in the US where i first met some polish people i made homemade pizza and part of what make my recipe great its the homemade sause, and at dinner, i was kinda offended when they asked for ketchup. well i made them try it without ketchup first then while we where eating they told me about polish pizza, now one thing i have found funny is that serveral pizza places ive been in in Krakow have AMERICAN pizza on the menu and i started laughing in the restraunt because it had 2 topping i had never seen anywhere but poland - corn and peaches.

You haven't been to Japan then (corn seems a very popular topping there)

Or how about a very American pizza with peaches?

I'm not a fan to be honest...but then I don't like ketchup at the best of times. Mayo is where it's at!

I'd never have pizza with ketchup.
It's kinda like adding a sweetener to sugar.

I'm not even sure that I would call Polish ketchup... ketchup. A lot of brands are just syrup.
Unlike the bottle of German, Werder Tomaten Ketchup that I have in front of me.
A good mayo can be where it's at, but only on certain foods.

yeah that's true about Polish ketchup, it definitely lacks the savoury, sour taste, it's a bit too runny, watery... totally not like ketchup, shall we just call it keczup then ;). now Heinz is what i'm talking about.

To be fair it is beaten only by Hollandaise...which I swear there is nothing you can't put it on. That heart clogging goodness!

I don't think I would put catsup on pizza. ick! Maybe the catsup is supposed to be marinara sauce? That would be pretty good! Worked with a guy from coastal Mississippi who put Russian or French salad dressing on pizza, Not bad. Probably the best thing to have w/pizza is garlic butter to dip the crust end in. (walks away to pre-heat oven....)
