Try Porter as it has a similar consistency. Dark beers are becoming more popular on the market here so there are a few available.

Most of the porters in Poland are heavier than Guinness. Zywiec sells a pretty decent porter that you can find just about everywhere. There are a couple of places that do excellent porters, they're just a bit more difficult to get a hold of.

There's a very palatable new Polish porter called Belfast.

I dunno how you guys can drink those types of beers, to me they taste like motor oil. I'd choose a nice lager any day.

Most porters are technically lagers :) I'm guessing you like pale lagers, usually too bland for me. Motor oil/chocolate milk, mater of perception I guess.

Anywho, Polish Porter roundup:

Black Boss is great
Kozlak is alright
Okocim is good, and available all over the place
Ciechan is awful

If you are looking only for a dark beer and the taste doesn`t matter, try Belfast:

Not so new. I drank it 5 years ago already.

Drinking dark beer at a football match? Will you bring a flat cap and a pipe too?

Does it leave a bitter taste that lasts for generations?:)

I much prefer dark beers though light beers are fine after some physical work. There is nothing better than a few hours splitting logs followed by a cold one.

Porters ans stouts are an acquired taste like choosing olives over cherries.

Belfast has been around for quite some time, so it's hardly new. It is brewed by Jablonów brerwery and is their best brew. Their pale beers are cheap and nasty.

You could always just buy Guinness. It's not available everywhere by I can buy it in the small town where I live for about 6zł for 440ml.

It's nice to hear it. Have you tried other dark beers from wlkp? Like for example Noteckie Eire?

I generally don't like dark beers, so no.

But in terms of light beers, I'm halfway through a six pack of Goralski and that is pretty nice!

I've just had a Żywiec porter, which is new, I think. It comes in 33cl bottles and at 9.5% packs quite a punch. In fact I feel as if I've had three normal beers. I'm now debating whether to have another one or a little lie down.

Not new but hasn't been distributed nationally much. I think it dates back to 2002 and am pretty sure that it's made in the Cieszyn brewery alongside Brackie (which is yet another of the regional brews which puts Zywiec to shame).
