Osiedle_Ruda 26 Aug 2007 #31I used to travel to Poland with hand luggage only, but I bring back so many boxes of Ptasie Mleczko these days, that my hold baggage is in danger of exceeding its weight limits. No wonder they keep laughing at me at passport control at Warszawa Okęcie lol :D

choco 5 Jun 2009 #34I love the Solidarnosc chocolates! I get mine at a local russian deli/store in northern California (Sacramento). Don't know where else you can get them except online maybe.

anubis - | 35 6 Jun 2009 #36Prince Polo suffered severe loss in quality since it was bought by Kraft Jacobs Suchard.I was afraid (and Polish chocolates are a serious matter to me) that similar fate would await the 155-yr old Wedel brand when it was taken over by Cadbury. So far, no tragic consequences. Torcik Wedlowski, which was always superior to Prince Polo, remained excellent, as did their other products.

Ahh the memories
mieszko lover 10 Aug 2009 #38Does anyone know where to get mieszko chocolates online? I used to eat them all the time when I lived by Polish delis and I can't find them anywhere. Best choclates ever!!!! Please e mail me at templeoftime@aol.com
Anique - | 6 12 Aug 2009 #39I love "wafel teatralny" from Kopernik. The wafer is just so good ;) (and their shops in Toruń have a nice atmosphere, like the shop Honeydukes from that Potter movie).I also looove krówka candies, especially Krówka Opatowska, with a delicious stretchy filling.Kukułki (Cuckoo Candies) and Raczki by Wawel are also my favourites ;)
KFUS 7 Jan 2010 #40anubisAnd now Kraft Foods is attempting a hostile take over of Cadbury =(. Fortunately, the latest news is that it will leave Polish Wedel alone. Thankfully! I work at Kraft but I'm also Polish and I know how good our chocolate is....especially Wedel. (And I agree, Prince Polo quality suffered when we acquired Olza)
Myszolow 3 | 157 7 Jan 2010 #41I think Wedel improved since Cadbury took it over. I don't like Wawel - I think they're poo. And as for Ptasie Mleczko - I hate them. But that's a personal choice. The plums in chocolate and liqueur chocolates are very good though. I also like the chocolate nuts and raisins you can buy (but I forgot the brand name). My main gripe about chocolate in Poland is that there is a huge range of quality available ranging from stuff which doesn't contain any cocoa, to some quite nice stuff.
1jola 14 | 1,879 7 Jan 2010 #42I think Wedel improved since Cadbury took it over.Wedel is in the MacDonald's category now. Pretty soon they will have drive-thrus at their dozens of locations.
Myszolow 3 | 157 7 Jan 2010 #43Ohh, you haven't been to £ódź lately then. They already have one at Manufaktura :pMaybe Wedel was better long ago, but in the 16 years I've toing and froing between UK and Polska I think it got better. But maybe it just got more Cadbury-like which could be what I was used to? Who knows? The fact that some people like Ptasie Mleczko shows we all have different tastes.
bullfrog 6 | 602 7 Jan 2010 #44Well, it's all a matter of acquired taste, isn't it? Cadbury? For me it's a bit like Marmite, you have to have been accustomed to it since birth to accept it.. British chocolate can hardly be described as the real stuff.. Indeed it was even labelled "chocolate substitute" until 2003 in certain EU countries because Britain allowed its chocolate makers to put fat (up to 5%) instead of real cocoa in its chocolates. But Britain won in the case in the EU in 2003. For my taste, true chocolate can only be found in Switzerland or Belgium..
polkamaniac 1 | 482 7 Jan 2010 #45the best ones are the "Krówki".They melt in your mouth with that wonderful flavour.
1jola 14 | 1,879 7 Jan 2010 #46For my taste, true chocolate can only be found in Switzerland or Belgium..France also. I used to go to a chocolatier who made American style brownies except on a whole different level. Oh, well, I like our plums in chocolate anyway. I'm just happy not to have to eat Hershey stuff.
bullfrog 6 | 602 7 Jan 2010 #47I agree with you, Jola1, in France also. The "Maison du Chocolat" in Paris is a pure dream...
Myszolow 3 | 157 7 Jan 2010 #48For my taste, true chocolate can only be found in Switzerland or Belgium..Can't argue that it's not damn good stuff. I love Lindt even if I can't spell it. ;)
1jola 14 | 1,879 7 Jan 2010 #49A simple recipe for Le gâteau au chocolat fondant de Jola to help you slim down:200 g of good dark chocolate200 g of butter5 eggs1 soup spoon of flour250 g sugarMelt the chocolate with the butter. Don't eat it all now, bacause you can lick the bowl later.Add the sugar and let it cool down somewhat.Mix in the eggs, one at the time.Add the flour and mix well.Pour it all in a 20 cm square form or something similar.Pop in the oven for about 20 minutes at 190 C.Enjoy your chocolate therapy.
Rockery Woman 1 | 2 1 Aug 2010 #53Krowka are lovely!! So are Kukula. Any of the Wavel brand chocolates are great. My favourite is Wavel Trufles!
Seanus 15 | 19,674 1 Aug 2010 #54Polish sweets are really good :) :) Krówki is like our fudge in the UK. Zuzola sweets are nice too. I love the ones with a liquor filling :)
wildrover 98 | 4,441 1 Aug 2010 #55One of my biker friends owns a company that makes Polish sweets....I always get a free bag of them when i go to visit him... they are yummy....broken link removed

wildrover 98 | 4,441 1 Aug 2010 #57we always get a few "krówki"Maybe my biker friend makes them...his site is sp-gniewko,com.pl its in English too...
polkamaniac 1 | 482 2 Aug 2010 #58unfortunarley,I don't live in Poland--the best I can do is get the freebie from the Polish meat store.
Seanus 15 | 19,674 2 Aug 2010 #59Krówka in hand :) :) 5.90PLN for 300g is a little steep but they are hand-made and high quality. 1.50p, all in all, is not that bad a price for what you are getting. My diet was going so well too ;)
wildrover 98 | 4,441 2 Aug 2010 #60They are the best sweets i have tasted in Poland....even more tasty due to me getting some free ones...
