Polonius3 994 | 12,367 1 Dec 2010 #1Do your families bake any special Polish Christmas cakes? Got any recipes?
OP Polonius3 994 | 12,367 1 Dec 2010 #3Dunno about you, but my favourites include makowiec, strucla z orzechami, pierniczki w czekoladzie and keks warsazwski. Of course babka drożdżowa z rodzynkami and sernik wiedeński are always good, although some may regard them as more Eastery than Christmasy.
ColdSteel - | 20 18 Dec 2011 #5I'd say cheesecakes are for Easter and any cakes with poppy are for Christmas, but many people would have both kinds for both Christmas and Easter. Whatever. I'll stick to my family's traditions.Polonius3, just google 'makowiec'. It's the most popular and traditional Christmas cake, I believe.
OP Polonius3 994 | 12,367 20 Dec 2011 #6Let's not forget piernik (sometimes translated as gingerbread), but it originated as a peppercake -- in Old Polish pierny (nowadays pieprzny) meant peppery. Some Polish familii I heard also regard murzynek as a typical Christmas cake. I wouldn't even attempt to translate that into English and risk getting the ACLU on my back. BTW some peeple say ACLU stands for ANTI-CLERICAL LOONIES.

pawian 223 | 24,389 23 Dec 2023 #9There is a problem, though - I like my cakes sweet while she - doesn`t. I tried the poppy seed cake and ate the piece politely to the end but without pleasure.I should have bought myself poppy seed cake in the shopping centre yesterday - they always make them sweet.
Alien 20 | 4,978 23 Dec 2023 #10My wife always makes those for Christmas:Does she make them in stock already in August?
pawian 223 | 24,389 23 Dec 2023 #11Don`t look at the date of posting. Check the date of photographing. More reliable. Ha!!!
