Thank you for the recipe. It is really simple. Usually I just use oil and vinegar, salt/pepper, thinly sliced red onion, maybe also a little balsamic vinegar. I like the idea of the cream. Thanks again!

PolskaDoll,

Thanks for the mushroom sauce recipe. I'll try that very soon. I can think of a couple things that could be a "secret" ingredient and will keep it a "secret."

I make a really killer mushroom soup if you are interested, but will give credit to a friend for the recipe.

I have never seen that here. Is that white cheese inside or some kind of cake? Looks decadent.

i found a recipe...

Karpatka Cake
½ package (125g) of sweet butter, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of flour, 1tsp of baking powder, 4 eggs.
Dissolve butter in water, add flour and baking powder – boil for 3 minutes. Set aside; add eggs mixing at the same time. Bake in 350 degrees two cake layers.
Cake Filling
1pt of milk, 1 cup of sugar, 2 TBS of potato starch, 2 TBS of flour, 1 package (250g) of sweet butter, vanilla.
Mix milk with flour and starch while boiling. Add vanilla. Set aside to cool and then add butter. Place filling between the cake layer.

Mushroom Soup

2 T Butter
2 Cups chopped onions
Light Salt

Melt butter in soup pan with salt and sauté onions until transluscent.

Add: 12 oz. sliced mushrooms
½ cup chicken stock
1 T. soy sauce
1 t. dill weed
1 T. paprika

Toss together and cover. Simmer for about 20 minutes, or until
the mushrooms have cooked well. Turn off heat.

Sauce to thicken:

2 T. butter
3 T. flour
1 Cup HOT milk

In another pan melt butter, add flour and stir about 2-3 minutes…..don’t burn. Add HOT milk slowly to HOT mushroom mixture and keep stirring to avoid lumps. Cook until thickened.

Add the sauce to the mushroom mixture and stir in.

Then add 1-1/2 cups of HOT chicken stock. Remove from heat and reheat when ready to eat.

Just before serving add: 2 t. lemon juice
1/4 cup fresh parsley
½ cup sour cream

Don’t boil after adding the sour cream or the soup might curdle.

PD has been cooking again. :) This time placki ziemniaczane. :) They were delicious (even if I do say so myself ;) It's probably not traditional ingrediants but close enough. :)

Sizzling! :)

Well, silly me, I had no sour cream so I just used some mayo instead. It was fine though. :) Sour cream next time though.

Shawn_H:

Or Ketchup?

I thought about that but then mayo seemed better. :)

That very closed minded. :-)

Or is ketchup reserved for pizza only?

Ketchup is almost pure evil.

i've reserved ketchup for a very few dishes which don't include placki ziemniaczane and pizza...

It didn't seem like a ketchup sort of a dish. So I went with the mayo. :)
