Why?

For the tanginess the vinegar in the ketchup provides.

As long as some muppet doesn't put ketchup on it...

one can buy 'pizza ketchup'. not sure if it is for the base or to be used as a topping/sauce

Ah the old familiar chronic zurek flavour quest maybe.

DE may have a point but I find a pizza to be a wash (awash with flavour) of flavours without ketchup. Ketchup is fine on a margerita but nowt else.

People from uptight countries just don't understand the practice.

Nah, people from countries with a more...sophisticated pallet prefer that their pizza doesn't need ketchup added.

Anyway, what would you know, seeing as you've never been to Poland?

Please don't start this in every thread.

What's to understand anyway? It's so like ... bohemian and nouveau LOL

Anyway wait a minute - uptight countries? Coming from an American ? Albeit one that seems to think all Brits wear bowler hats and play cricket?

Oh, you're good DE.

Do the French put Beajoulais on theirs? Probably not ;)

I've liked the pizza wherever I've been. I miss some of the Scottish places but the Polish ones are pretty much the same. In Japan they were good too.

Was that what you signed at the border? Reason for stay? Pizza ;) ;) I can just imagine the look on the faces of those who work in administration here. Why do you want to extend your stay in Poland? Oh, because of the pizza :) :)

no offense, but for that kind of food, the further to the south in europe, the better it gets. closer to the original and keeps its characteristics known for. ;)

++++

And people who think pizza + ketchup are a good idea shouldn't talk about the best pizza in the world, lol.

[OK, let's try this again: my first attempt at this post went terribly awry.]

This is a Chicago-thin-crust-style pizza made in America by one of Polish descent from a recipe based on one used at an Italian pizzeria. (The picture came out a little darker than the pizza actually was.)

I'd pick this tasty looking pizza, as opposed to a pizza drenched in ketchup any day.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

And this is a pizza from Napoli:

Pizza is a simple dish made from fresh, good ingredients. Fresh tomatoes and herbs, good olive oil, buffalo mozzarella, baken in a brick oven.
