today..oops yesterday was my birthday. i got invited to a couple of my polish friends house. we were all drinking wodka and i havent tried this particular one before, and stupidly forgot to write name of it down. its a very pale colour orange and has spices in it. anyone know what its called? also i would like to know why many poles are drinking finlandia wodka now. i was in krakow couple months ago, and it seemed to be very popular, and also very expensive. i just stuck to the beer! thanks in advance for any help

It must have been "żołądkowa gorzka", the only vodka I can drink straight :) It's great. Hope you had a happy birthday :)

There are a whole lot of drinks that fit that description, the most common/popular is gorzka żołądkowa (bitters vodka).

But there's half a dozen or more similar drinks with a similar color. Each has a particular mix of herbs, my own favorite is the cheapo (slightly cedary) balsam kresowy (border balsam?)

You drink the others gay? (I keed, I keed)

Anyway, rather confusingly there's also czysta żołądkowa gorzka, which is one of the very best clear vodkas. You can pay a lot more but you won't get better. Reccomended with tatar (ymmmmm).

de luxe bottle

this is the one!!! really nice wodka and you have to drink it straight. not sure if its normal, but most of my polish friends drink wodka neat and wash it down after with either coca cola or apple juice

it's the second part, niech żyje nam (may s/he live for us!) it's wishing the person a long life,
it's kind of like 'many happy returns' which I completely didn't understand as a child.

In Polish it's call befsztyk tatarski, or just tatar for short. It's a good idea to wash it down with lots of vodka.
