It's a bit of a cheat, but you could do what I did for my Polish gf: Pop along to the Polish section in the local Tesco and get some ready made pierogi, etc- then tell them you spent all day in the kitchen preparing it ;)

Make him Goł±bki everyone loves them, beef and rice wrapped in cabbage and spicy tomato sauce . They're Ukrainians in the video, but the Goł±bki are the same.

My Nana used to make latkes also known as placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes). Easy peasy with shredded potatoes and onions. You just cannot go wrong with it, and it's a childhood treat for many Poles as far as I'm aware. Nana used to serve it two ways depending on if it was a proper dinner or just a snack, with sugar and sour cream or alongside beef gulash (a stew)

Eventhough I am English my Grandma and her side of the family were Polish, however she died early, but I remember this! We used to have this with her, with suger my mum says, I did not realise it was Polish, brings back memories.

thankyou, I want to try this!

Yes, it is very Polish and very Jewish as well so brings two cultures and nations together well, now even three. Enjoy! Ohhh I have such a massive urge to have a bite on now!

You do not serve potato pancakes without a reason and history behind it. I'm going to give you a tip: add a tbs of a potato flour, it will keep it together nicely while turning on a pan

Try beef rolls with dumplings and red cabbage. It's a Silesian speciality :)

So what are you looking to do? Make a single romantic course (leaving time for other romantic things) or looking to make a big 3 course affair??
Is this ur first time making such food?

Just don't throw a lasagne into the micro, a la British, and expect him to like it ;) ;)

The Poles value preparation and presentation but also sth substantial.

Precisely! It's not often you get sth for free these days. You could surprise him and make nothing.

Seriously though, I have a Polish cookbook and would be happy to pass on some recipes for that which you think YOU could make. For example, those stuffed pockets (pierogi) seem to be easy but aren't unless you have the right equipment. My wife makes them very well, God Bless her, but it can be deceptively tricky! ;)

I have a Regional Polish cookbook, a modern Polish cookbook, and a 1956 Polish cookbook, but no-one's having them, lol :D

Don't know why I keep them, really... all the recipes I need are in my head :D
