Absolutely Tyskie!

Tyskie is certainly ok. I can't easily distinguish either. Królewskie in Warsaw is a bit cheaper than Tyskie and seems about the same. But 'Ciechan', which contains only water, malt and hops, is unpateurised, and costs the same, has real character.

They do a honey-flavoured and a dark beer, but the normal one with the green label is a revelation compared to the usual bland and chemical-tasting Polish fare.

Yees, I know and I like it too:-) I think Ciechan is unfiltered beer (they are not filtered well after the fermentation process).

Hmm... it is hard to say which beer is No.1 because most of polish beers are tasty:-)

As we know well, there are many kinds of beer in Poland. I cannot explain what is difference amoung them and distinguish the taste, but Tyskie is suitable for me:-)

It's because they all are a variant of one standarized beer, produced by three major companies, on exactly the same production lines :-(

I used to like Palm ...but Kielce Brewery has been bought a couple of years ago by one of the Big Three breweries, and they decided to stop production of such extravagant beer. By the way, they also "stole" other beers brewed in Kielce, like Gingers or Frater, started production in some other anonymous brewery, and closed Kielce Brewery :-(

From some time, my favourite taste, different from Tyskie and company, is Perła (Pearl) of Lublin Brewery.

(edited: Palm wasn't strictly a Polish beer, for it was licence-produced, and the brewery in Kielce was Browar Belgia)

I've made my choice elsewhere but I tried Frater the other day, quite good it was too.

It is from the Kompania brewery in Poznań.

Yes, stolen from Kielce, grrr!.. :-/

Silesia has some decent brews. Asides from the giants in brewing, there are many hidden gems. You just need to know where to find them.

Bosman gold is not bad-it's a smoother and lighter beer.

Pilzner Urquel - it's the top-notch product in Czech. I know what I am writing, I live a few kilometres from Polish-Czech boarder

Really? "Pilsner Urquell" is a poor imitation of the original, which was unique in the world. The Czechs were absolutelylivid about it's destruction and subsequently took steps to protect their beer heritage. Sadlt the Pilsen brewery was scrapped in 1992 or thereabouts. This **** is now "brewed" by South African breweries (sorry if this has been noted on this thread already).

It was an oak cask stored lager, using Pilzen water (rather the point wouldn't you say) and Sauer hops. The casks stood 30 feet high vertically and the beer was stored for 9 weeks off the top of my head (probably wrong.

Now of course it is chemical shite from Poznan, Tychy and Pilzen. Another famous Czech beer that was barstardised and is now undrinkable is Staropramen. It will rot your liver.

Only Radegast, Budweiser and a few others are drinkable.

Does Poland have any good beer at all? This is a serious and honest question. For beer to be pasteurised it has to be quality in the first place, with what are today prohibitively expensive ingredients if not subsidised by the state, as Budweiser Budwar is.

I used to drink in a Polish club with a few of my mates in London, many years ago the beer was all bottled no draught. But they also had a Polish vodka which would blow your head off, The guys came from different parts of Poland from before the war. So I don't know were it came from, they called it Polish white spirit, they should have called it Polish white lightening. I have looked for it many time since, so I guess you are keeping over for yourselves.

More every year. The ones round here are the four from Ciechanow, Dawne (from Konstancin), Mazowiecki and Warszawiak. The Amber brewery up near Gdansk also do some excellent beers, my favourite from them is Zywe. And none of the beers I've just listed are pasteurised.

No, just smallish local breweries.

Not anymore, the brewery in Bytow closed down about four years ago. I was looking forward to having some when I went there in 2008 but no such luck!

I've browsed beeradvocate.com recently (thanks to somebody, who put the link earlier in the topic), and Perła is a good one, pretty good are Łomża, Okocim Zagłoba, Okocim OK and Warka. Highly estimated there (A) are porters, but this is the kind I rarely drink, so I can't tell.

Good one was Żubr... but it was probably when it was brewed by Dojlidy, before its sale to SABMiller or whatever.

Yes. Żubr has really changed - it used to have a very distinctive hoppy taste but now just seems like Żywiec, Tyskie, Okocim etc, all pretty well indistinguishable from each other.

I think I've mentioned it already but try Ciechan - it's a little different from the rest.

Never tried Perla, but will. Ten years back when I tried them the other beers weren't bad. This Krakowian top fermenting beer seems interesting! Anybody given it a go?

I wanted to post the linkbut couldn't. What is this cliquey childish shite mods? Get a life.

The Brackie beer. As a matter of fact, I just finished the 8th bottle. Goes great with the yellow cheese. Or KoĽlak. Or Piwo żywe. Good night.

Brackie is an acquired taste from Cieszyń. I find it a bit sweet and 'flowery'. It is fine on a really warm day but, other than that, there are other options for choice.

Perla isn't even the best of the Lublin brewery's beers. Lubelski pils is excellent but Zwierzyniec is sublime, by far and away my favourite pasteurised Polish beer. Unfortunately neither of them are available outside Lubelski....
