yes, i have my own pizza shop. just to name a few varieties of pies we make, we have an "I'm the Shizznit" pie, "Shine my Shoes" pie, and "Who da' man?" pie (my personal favorite)

;)

on a more serious note, i'll just say that pizza in poland simply isn't pizza. just like chinese food in poland isn't chinese food.

Hm, besides a little bowl of bolognese sauce I've never had a bowl of ketchup served with my pizza. But then again, I didn't eat pizza when I was in PL.

M-G (on the other hand, here in IRL they serve chips with the lasagna...on the same plate :| )

Even if the chef is Italian?

Well, that's the way it's usually served in Poland, the more dodgy places might just offer you the ketchup bottle.

Well, rather that than having chips served on the same plate as your lasagna as they do here in IRL...:/

They serve chips with everything in the UK as well - and I mean everything, including sandwiches.

Who on earth orders chips with a sandwich?? :D

Believe it or not, some people over here put crips in their sandwiches! :0 lol

I certainly don't - but when ordering a sandwich at a pub, I often get asked whether I'd like chips with that, dunno whether they're trying to be more like McDonalds or what, but it does happen often enough for me to have noticed ;-)

Well, I can tell you: if you go here in Dubs to a chipper and order a chip-buddy, you will get a sandwich WITH CHIPS, MAYO AND KETCHUP ON IT...Nothing else...Disgusting!

:((

M-G (and then there is not one single Greek restaurant in this city of nearly 2 mln)

In Brazil they also eat their pizza with catsup.

Does any country other than Poland serve a tomato-catsup-like sauce on the side with their pizzas? In Polish pizzerias that is common, but I have not run into an pizza places in Michigan that do so. The tomato sauce is baked into the pizza, not poured over the baked pizza.

You ******* Pizza heathens!

;P

Pizza and ketchup has generally been discussed in this thread without too much deviation so I will digress a little and ask the following.

How popular is Maggi amongst Poles here? My wife's dad was a little surprised that I added both Maggi and pepper to the jarzynowa soup I had today. I liberally threw them in but I like to have contrastive flavours on occasion. Generally I wouldn't when it comes to soup as soup is to have a given flavour. For example, I wouldn't add anything to cream of chicken soup (esp Baxters) but it would depend if the manufacturer made it too weak. In that case, a pinch of salt works wonders.

Back to the thread, ketchup works better on certain pizzas than others. With pepperoni or margherita, it goes well. With seafood or 4-cheese pizzas, it can add sth that doesn't need to be added.

I was unaware of this practice till about 10yrs ago. I had a crew of Polish guys doing a bunch of construction on my house. One day for lunch I bought a bunch of pizzas. I set them out on the picnic table with paper plates, plastic utensils, hot sauce, some sodas, beers and salt & pepper. Within seconds of the men sitting down to eat half of them were asking me for ketchup...to this day I find it bizarre.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Ketchup on pizza is an abomination, as are many of the other toppings here. Corn doesn't belong on pizza.

Some of the best Pizza I have ever eaten is iPoland, it is only companies like 'American' Domino's who have ruined pizza.

Hahaha, here in America we have plenty of Italian pizza places so don't try to start nonsense. Polish pizza is garbage just like most Polish food.

I agree with you on Polish pizza, but not about most Polish food. It's usually a little bland, but I can take care of that.

depends where you go. I have found a few excellent places that have chefs that have been trained abroad or are Italian. In Warsaw there is Numero Uno and Casa Mia- just to name two- there are a few more but I can't remember the names. Pomodory as well.

Americans have ruined food. Where else in the world would a coissant be modified into something called the coissandwich- a lovely little breakfast number by burger king. revolting.

American bread is disgusting- the meats are so full of gmo and also corn and other grains have been modified beyond recognition. American milk and dairy is so full of growth hormones that little girls are growing up faster than ever- I mean the whole puberty thing.

Polish food is good. There are better genre's of food but generally speaking it is pretty decent. Not like the gmo, hormone modified slop that is so heavily processed that 60% of the population is obese.

Does any country other than Poland

I have not run into an pizza places in Michigan that do so.

Being in a few places in Michigan made you think that the whole world is like that. This is uniquely American way of thinking.

Apart from that, I am also wondering why not use good tomato sauce to pizza but ketchup.

Italians cannot stand the vulgarity of putting ketchup into pizza. It is like a blasphemy for them sth unthinkable(a trend in Greece too) aince the flavor of pizza is determined by the special tomato sauce each pizza shop in Italy bakes.

o it would follow that Poles in fact do not serve pizza with ketchup.

and the Italians put a Tomato sauce on their Pizza's.

Casa Mia

An excellent place!

The best pizza place I know is in ToruĊ„ - anyone who lives there will know it.

It's true though - ketchup slathered on pizza (and zapiekanka, and just about anything) is normal in PL.
