Foreigners: Please don't buy the Polish Land!

Yep. Don't ask me why...


Did I say I had a problem? I'm fine. I'm sorted. I was reacting to what Ola said earlier. She is not the only one and I feel sorry for them. I was mearly speaking out about attitudes/greed ( and yes it is greed) how to make a quick fortune and exclude others. People influence everything - including the market. Look at how estate agents behave. "lets throw a price in the air - someone will bite.." Human nature.



Larry - there is no shame in doing a fair days work and earning less than others. Not everyone can be a city executive. Do they not deserve a home too - be it smaller and modest ?

I live in London and I work in Film & TV. I earn more than most people I know. That's great and I'm happy. But - I still could not afford to buy a house (small 2 bedroom) in my own town.
Now that stank rotten!
I got my house in the end with financial help from many people - I kept some of my dignity. I don't want a bigger home - or change my job because that is my chosen career and I love it. That's my right. God help some of my friends who don't stand a chance to buy because they don't have private help. God help the people of Poland who earn 5 times less than in UK and house prices in some areas are almost the same as in UK - it's moving too fast. Let them keep up.




For those who work - it is a right. By that, I mean they should be able to buy an affordable home within their means. OF COURSE THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT!
It doesn't get any more complicated than that.
Driving is a priveledge. That's why we have legs. We can walk - or get the bus.


Is there a housing shortage in US - or lack of land to build? That's nearly 6 times the price. Justification?
BTW building a home or renovating a home is cool. My protest was against people buying ready homes, sitting on them and selling for profit later.

People can think what they want. Nothing to do with it.


You say old school - it's just plain common sense. Everything starts at the home. It's the foundation.

ola123, how do u feel about polish immigrants that move to America for a few years, and then move back to poland? Are they viewed the same way?

i was just asking because my parents plan on moving back. Are finding jobs in poland easy and also is it better to have a small farm in the country or to live in the city?

I was working my ass off unlike some of you suggest. But I have no chance to buy even small flat after 20 years of working my ass off and that makes me angry just like my polish mates.

Its still not easy to find decent job in Poland so staying in the city makes your chances of finding the job better.

ola.i have just bought a house here. i paid for it with hard earned money made in england. i paid locall people who had no work to do it up for me . i have run out of money now and offered my sevices locally looking for work myself. the wages i was ofered would not even pay my cole bill so i refuse to work here. i now have to go back to england to work and send money back home to my wife and child here in poland .i refuse to work for some greedy local polish nob. should i feel anger towards him or except thats the way it is here? and not feed that greed!

whingers dont really get anywhere in life mate... they end up feelin shafted by someone else because they didnt have the guts to live a little... as i have said here countless times, poland has entered a new reality where the rules of the game are different... dont moan if you dont understand the rules - learn the game and then play it... thats what makes the difference between a winner and a loser... you create your own luck...



every country in europe has a gripe like this... its the reality we live in... deal with... i mean, lets face it, following your line of thought i could say that poles in england are taking our jobs and they should fuk off home to their own country... but i realise thats a pretty stoopid thing to say...

when you have experienced life a little, you will realise that nobody likes to be taken for a ride, but there are a couple of points worth noting here -

firstly, p[oland isnt in the position to start fukin with anyone... and probably wont be for a while.

secondly, people in glass houses etc... if poland wasnt doing so well of other countries' backs - the uk - they might have a leg to stand on... as it is, they dont...

thridly, you might find that the number of overseas investors buying substantially in the uk is not that disimilar to those buying in poland...

I brought this up while visiting and everyone laughed when I said that i'd work in PL.

In the Uk the average person ends up with a 30 year morgage, just like in Poland. We also have rich foreigners coming to London and buying up property. It seems Ola you are against capitalism, which is fair enough everyone is allowed an opinion.
Unfortunately we live in a dog eat dog world and that that. Swim or sink.

If Polish people really want Poland for themselves and not to be part of the Union, mabye Poland should withdraw from the union, repatriate all non-poles and make it illegal for Polish people to leave Poland and look for work elsewhere.

Or people can stop bloody whinging and like my missus did straight after (during actually) University, head for the UK. She started like many young Poles sharing a room with others, earning basic wages. Infact she does earn huge wages now, she just is savvy with her cash ( and mine). She has been in the UK 6 years and now very soon we shall be returning to our flats in Poland. One thing I like about the young Polish that come to the Uk, is that they are trying to do something, which is honourable.
There is no honour in whinging.

I must agree that this attitude is very strange and one sided. I was a student in Moscow twenty years ago and there were 600 sudent teachers of Russian at the Pushkin Institute. The Poles never had a good word to say about the English and it was always 'our Churchill sold Poland to the Russians ect ect...'Now it is very different story. The Poles have come to England en mass and want to work and buy houses in the best parts of each town to guarantee that their children will be in the right catchment area for the best state schools. They know exactly how to 'work the system'. I was in Poland a few years ago just before Poland actually joined the EU and I was thinking about buying a small piece of land, maybe to build a house later on. Even though my wife and her family are Polish (her family lives in Czestochowa), I had no rights whatsoever-I had no right to buy as much as a garden shed as I had no Polish passport. If Poland wants to be so pure why do we have an estimated 600,000 Polish working here in England? There are also many in Ireland. It does seem to be a Polish characteristic-they always want to be on the winning side of an argument. They never take responsibility for anything as this Ola 23 suggests to be just the same as all the others I have met. Do what I say and not what I do scenario.

Poles had their country taken from them for 120 years - they were treated like slaves - then they were shafted - then granted short-lived freedom - then their country was completely destroyed and then they were shafted again - and then their country was taken over for 50 years by communists....all within the last 150 years. The sense of loss and betrayal cuts deep. That trauma is subcontiously passed down the generations. I'm not saying ohh lets all feel sorry for the poor Polish people - I'm just saying it the way it is.
Foreigners will never know.
Poland is going through rehab. Let them. Rehab is never pretty.

Does anybody actually have any real figures on the Polish property market?

I want to buy houses in Torun, Poznan and Warsaw and I've tried talking to Polish introductory estate agents, but all I've been fed so far is bullshít.

Nothing seems to add up although I am interested in this market.

One guy (who i didn't beleive) told me the average house prices in poznan rose 20% in one year?!

Obviously now would be a good time to start buying investment properties before the Poles but my main concern here in England is weather the Polish market is going to be stable. If we do to the poles what we did to the spanish who is going to buy the houses? Spain was different because we sold the houses back to the English, but there are no English retiring couples moving to Poland.

I'm only 27 so I missed out on the Spanish boom, for most people my age our only chance of getting a portfolio is in eastern europe.

my partner reminded me yesterday that we were reluctant to pay 3.5k psqm for an apartment 6 months ago... apartments in the same area are now going for rarely less that 5.5k psqm

prices are soaring all over the 3M - i am now focussing attention on surrounding areas/cities where they have yet to catch up

there are different markets - new build, what is advertised by agents thru websites etc and what is being privately sold where you have to be on the ground to get the bargains... which calls for contacts and a local...

How true, indeed 38 million odd poles know this very well.. True telling a young couple that there dream home has now gone up 100,000zl thanks to the property boom, generated by overseas interests...

I'm not having a go at you personally as you have a Polish wife, but only a few people are enjoying the good life in Poland, you are very lucky.
