I notice that there are some very good posts on this site. The problem is that some of them are in deletable threads and others are hidden away in the mists of the forum.

I would like to see a locked thread containing 'best posts'

Points of view, please.

It could be like a reality TV show - next to the 'Report' button, we could have a 'Vote for this post' button.

I was thinking of posts like the weekly round-up by sz, which is in a deletable thread.

some people might also like the challenge of writing a quality post, which might be included.

I`m in favor if all off topics being deleted including my own

and starting back from square one.

Maybe the forum would be about Poland again :)

This is true, but maybe it's in the nature of a forum such as this to be ephemeral. Like a masterpiece drawn in the sand on a beach, it is difficult to freeze posts in time. Maybe they should just be appreciated on a fleeting basis...?

Sometimes it takes a while Wroclaw but you may have noticed that I notice your notices. There are a few gems but they get lost scrabbling for air under the weight of the screaming masses. Over here there where nevermind I need to know if anyone's seen a gorgeous polish girl anyway she escaped last night.

Perhaps not a sticky but some kind of archive. That would of course necessitate the need for an Archivist.
Jobs offered: Archivist must be able to move posts at random but in line with current changable guidelines. Must own own Cardigan. Love for the Littoral would be swell. :)

I'm actually inclined to agree with cubic.
Ephemeral was the word I was looking for.
I don't normally like to repeat myself, and I particularly don't like old jokes of my own being repeated to me again and again,
even the very occasional ones that are actually funny.

I understand, but at the same time I think it could work. New members might be encouraged after reading 'the quality side' of the forum.

It might be a good idea, but there are four issues:

1) Out of context posts (or posts that include a quote from another post).

2) Who determines who and what qualifies as the best posts. If it's the moderation stuff, there will be never-ending whining and complaints - "why this post, not that" etc.

3) Creating additional work.

4) What is considered best or interesting today, tomorrow is likely to lose its value or relevancy. That's why not many members may be willing to read the stuff from the past if they know the message may not be valid anymore.

As a reminder, there is the "Add this Thread to Favorites" option and every member may keep up to 60 threads in their Favorite Topics section.

Don't you want to move on people and not to come back to something that somebody said?

Who would read it anyway?

The red/white star on the right of the topic title in the thread.
