Yes. It is a derogatory word for a villager. Wieśniak is normal but wieśniok is Silesian.

wiesniok, correct spelling but in country dialect: wieśniok, literally spelling: wieśniak=a peasant, a village dweller Quite often used as derogatory term describing somebody as a hillbilly, a yahoo Edit: Too late, did not notice Seanus posting. Please disregard

I agree but only if the meaning of wieśniok is someone who's somewhat simple and silly and is not meant to be very derogatory at all then yes, "hillbilly" would be the term. However, if wieśniok has a very negative connotation, if it portrays someone who's very ignorant, clueless, xenophobic, etc., then "redneck" might be a better translation.

Wieśniak... means some who comes from the wieś or countryside (the boonies, or the sticks in American) This is just a more slangish term for someone who is a countryboy/girl I would say "hick" is the closest term in American, maybe even hill billy or red neck
